    Timing belt how to

    I found this via Skylineowners.com.
    http://www.skylinegts.co.uk/
He's got some nicely laid out instructions and help for some of the basics. The most useful one I found was the timing belt change.
For those of you who don't know, this is a MAJOR thing that should be done the second you get you Skyline unless you have proof it was done recently. When the timing belt goes... BANG.... so does a good part of the valves in the head and now you need to have your head re-worked.

Has anyone gone to a dealership to get a price on a timing belt? I have a new one sitting at home that I ordered myself. I just wanted to know what the price difference is.

If it's at all as time consuming or complicated as a DSM it's not gonna be even near worth it. On DSMs, the shops will do it for almost $1K, or you can spend the $100 for yourself and 4 hours of labour. I can't see a Skyline being too much different. Maybe throw in more money because of the exotic nature, etc...

If you can do the timing belt on a Toyota 3VZE, then you can do one on ANYTHING! GRRRRR!!!!! I`m sure glad the 3VZE is a non-interference engine! Too bad my `83 civic wasn`t.

If they aren't the same, then they should be very close.

They shouldn't be any different. Same DOHC configuration, and I'm pretty sure the water, oil, etc.. wheels are in the same place.
