    Transmission question

hey guys, ive got a dead rb20det tranny in my 1990 skyline. I need to puchase a replacement but im having a hard time finding one.

So i guess my question is to anyone that was decent experience with this tranny, are there any other ones that would fit or may be better so i can broaden my ability to source one. Anyone help would be great, thank you in advance.

Try your local jdm parts supplier. Like an importer or a jdm engine shop near you nismo

RB25 tranny with drive shaft and electronic speedo. I have a spare RB20 tranny but Im not parting with it unless the right price comes along.

Rb20/25 will fit. Keep an eye out for cars parting out, easy way to get parts cause most of these are considered write offs with accidents... Also I believe z32(300zx) trans will pair up to. I hear of alot of guys in the states using SR/RB/z32 setups.

What exactly is "dead" on it if you don't mind me asking...

Not exactly sure whats specifically wrong with it, stopped at a light, put it into neutral, light went green, tried to put it into gear, wouldnt go into any gear but 5th. Has a shop look at it but couldnt find anything wrong short of taking the tranny off and i dont feel like paying a shop $85/hour for 6 hours to take a tranny off lol to tell me its broken. Hoping to get it home soon to take a better look. But doubt its something i can fix so im looking for another tranny in the meantime.

Well before you go spendin bling on a new one, chances are it's somethin that can be fixed and not that expensive either. No matter what if your gonna swap it you'll have to get a shop to do it by the sound of things I suggest you check out the "Clutch Issues" thread in his section (Clutch Issue).. Sounds like similar symptoms... And I wouldn't want to see you pay out the ass for new tranny when it could be something so simple as a $10 part..
