    Clutch Issue.......engages almost instantly.

just had a new clutch and flywheel installed in my rb25 r33 gtst. done by a reputable mechanic. however im not too impressed, because the clutch is super soft and engages almost instantly. im talking like if i dont have my toes pointed directly into the pedal as far to the floor as it can go it wont disengage.

my first thoughts are that it needs to be bled again, or who knows if it was bled to begin with (correct me if im wrong but you should bleed the clutch slave cylinder after a new clutch goes in?)

OR apparently there is a pedal adjustment on the clutch pedal itself? this doesnt seem like the correct fix to me

i dunno, im kind of choaked cause i just paid someone to do this and it is hard as **** to drive cause the damn pedal is so soft and short.

i asked buddy about it and he said to pump the **** out of it, which didnt seem to make a difference.

    any advice is appreciated.

Does the pedal stay low to the floor? Does it release upon changing gears or do you manually have to lift it with your foot?

Similar thing happened to me two weeks ago, turned out to be my throw out bearing.

Not sure if this helps but I'm interested to know what this is, so lete know when you find out.
    Because race car.

Did he put it back together properly? The post above makes sense too, if the throw out is hanging up the clutch would not engage/disengage properly.
Probably gonna have to open it back up to see what's going on, take it back to the shop who replaced it. If they are reputable they should warranty the work.

id bleed it again! i had this problem and the pedal wouldnt come back up by itself..i bled the clutch its not 100% perfect cuz i was hurrying but it seems a lot better.. try bleeding at the clutch master up top..have a bud crack the nut and then push pedal is like 75% and then crack the nut tight and pull the pedal all the way up..do that a couple times..should work.

ok, here is an update.........bled the top and the slave and nothing but fluid came out. tried to adjust the pedal as far as i could 'longer' so the rod is pushing through the fire wall sooner and discovered with only a few small turns the pedal wouldnt release so i backed it off till the pedal would release again.

the clutch is super soft, feels like nothing till your foot is basically touching the floor, it drives, but but its fuckin shity. its like an on/off switch that is right on the floor. there is only about an inch at most where the clutch grabs.

i talked to the mechanic that installed the clutch and he said nothing looked unusual, he did not release or open any hydraulic lines so there shouldnt have been a need to bleed it to begin with.
the one thing he did say is that the new clutch is noticably thinner (1/4'' or less) and that could be the issue.

i was wondering if any one has installed a longer pin in the slave so that it is activated sooner by pushing on the pedal? could this help?

i dunno, im at a loss, new clutch and there is no clutch there!!!!

Is the slave working properly? I have an issue with mine in my r32 rb20. My slave is leaking and my pedal sometimes stays down, not all the way but I sometimes have to help it back up with my toe. Are you grinding any gears while shifting? Just a thought. The thinner clutch may also be to blame, is it specific to your tranny?

I did a clutch in my r43 GTR. I used a clutch for a r32 GTR and I had the same problem. It felt like the top half of the pedal was doing nothing. We found that the play was coming from the slave area. I took the pin that the slave pushes the fork arm and replaced it with one that was longer. It works great now. You might have to play around with the length a bit.

If it's an aftermarket clutch that is 1/4 inch thinner, and it's a push type clutch, I would install a clutch release bearing that has a longer sleeve on it. you can get them in various sizes.
