    Gt35

    Hello All,

Im ordering a new turbo as mine has gone out... I wanted to see if there is any issues with bolting a gt35 directly to the stock manifold or if it is necessary to run a top mount manifold for it. Also.. with the top mount manifold, will it change the position of where the outlet pipe bolts up to the turbo(trying to determine total cost and I want to factor in the new pipe work if necessary)

    Thanks

You'll need alot of new things... I'm not sure what your currently running now but you'll need the following:

    -new manifold
    -new downpipe

And depending on other things you might need some supporting mods for the turbo like fuel setup or other items.

The Garrett GT35 will require a front facing manifold and will by no means bolt to your oem manifold.

If you're intending on a single of that size, you will probably need to do a few more upgrades to benefit from the power it can make, first being your motor (rb20? rb25?) at least a metal headgasket/studs, intake plenum, injectors, MAF, fuel pump, standalone for tuning...

I can't see the benefit to a GT35 on a stock setup. If you're just looking or a quick replacement, however, an RB25 turbo will always bolt up. I have one for sale.

    Best of luck!

^sorry man but I have to disagree on a couple things there, there is no need for a front facing plenum and the motor shouldn't matter either. If you do the supporting mods for the motor like head gasket, head studs, and other little bits than you should be fine. You will need a standalone if you want to optimize your setup at a safe level

Spend big money on a big single turbo to keep the stock 20/25 intake manifold?
    Why?
Sure if you want an extremely unresponsive & laggy setup.

More air & fuel is a must when entering the bigger numbers.

Heck, my car's currently being built, and I paid $350 for a GReddy replica mani (Freddy plenum to most). It's a very cost-effective upgrade. I'm not disagreeing with you entirely, but I don't see lots of RB20/RB25's or even 1JZ's that keep their stock manifolds past 400-500bhp.

You don't need a front facing manifold. OEM setup has nice long runners, which are good for torque across a wide range. Your freddy manifold is going to gain power up high, but lose torque down low. It'll look cooler, and you'll have shorter intercooler piping. OEM manifold design will most likely distribute air better. There's a reason why the old RB20 powered R31 race cahz used the OEM intake manifold.

More air & fuel is a must when entering the bigger numbers.
I'm not sure what that has to do with his question. But a GT35 on an RB20 is going to require revs. High boost threshold and lots of lag aren't the horror that people make them out to be, you just have to drive the car accordingly. As far as fitting a GT35r sized turbo on the stock exhaust manifold.... I've never seen it done, but there's no harm in trying. If it did fit, I'd get the exhaust mani extrude honed and swain (or similar) coated. OEM exhaust manifold has it's benefits. Like not cracking

If an HX35 can fit on the stock manifold, I really cannot see why the smaller Gt35r wouldn't.

I know it's in a s13, but the engine bay size isn't that different.

Thanks for all the feedback guys and Collector thanks for the video... My main concern was that i kept hearing that GT35 "doesnt like" being at that position/angle.
