Question Looking to buy Skyline to import to US.

I`ve always been interested in the 90`s model skyline GTR ,pretty wicked rides. and i`ve just put a house on the market so i`ll be getting a good bit of toy money to spend and i want a skyline. I drive a stage 2 modified 03 Cooper S and I still get stomped a bit guess i pick on the wrong cars, But any way does anyone know the Import Laws to the US . Or can i just buy one in canada and get it on a flatbed truck in US. and ship it home my self .Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also having a right side drive skyline around these parts would turn some serious heads especially when the only thing they would see would be the rear badge. THX............

I would be calling your local DMV and Ask them what you need to import a car from Canada into your state..

Then i would be checking Online forums for your state and see if anyone else knows.

After that i would assume there is no "legal" way.. so you would ahve to find a Gray way?

unless the vehicle is 25yrs or older i highly doubt you will be able to legally get one into the USA...

but as someone already has said check your local laws and requirements i know they vary from state to state so you may find some kind of loop in the law...

    good luck though

Email him he imports them into Florida. Might be able to answer your questions.

Most of us here don't know how, just that it gets done somehow, someway, sometimes.

Decent prices too, for all the BS I'm sure he has to go thru.

He was supposed to be getting a Nur-spec R34 GTR as well. It used to be on his site as "coming soon", but I don't see it now

There is a no legal way, all those cars running around in Florida are smuggled past the feds, then registered with the state in a round-about way. They in no way passed federal inspections, which means they may be Florida titled but they are still illegally imported cars.

If you try to drive/flatbed a legally bought and imported car from Canada, the US border patrol will turn you around at the border. I've seen it happen many times, people from NY state are trying to buy skylines in Montreal and drive the back. Customs isn't stupid, they know what is going on.

The only way you could do it "legally" would be to build one "from scratch" and register with the state as kit car. If you could document the entire build up process, and mixed in a bunch of non-OEM parts, you could probably legitimately do it completely within the law.

Especially if you sourced parts from several cars of several years, and you had a papertrail and photodocumentation of the entire process. I mean people build cobra, hotrod, and ferrari kitcars all the time, why not a skyline replica? (made of 70% original new/used nissan parts and 30% aftermarket bits).

There was a thread a few years back about a guy who bought an EVO in Japan, stripped it down to bare parts small enough to ship in small boxes by UPS, then reassembled it on to a US lancer shell. That's probably 300+hrs of work, but where there is a will there is a way.

Hi all. Nice thread. I'm in similar situation as Burno. I never thought about states having import laws themselves. Shouldn't Federal law supersede state law? Or is the state laws just for registering, not actually importing?

Also, from what I understand, US treats Canadian vehicles differently from non-North American vehicles. Now my question is: Would a JDM import vehicle approved for Canada be considered a Canadian vehicle by US Customs or still a Japanese vehicle?

Maybe there is a way to just import straight from Japan into US without having to rely on the 25 year rule?

    Thanks for any help! :hit_head:
