Ontario - JDM VIN Verification ?

    Update:

All documents have the same VIN (sales, export certificate, appraisal, safety ....).

Been to two bureaus - at least they are consistent - both insist on a letter from a dealer. Found a couple of dealers that think they have heard of this before. Just a real pain - pretty much forced to trailer it to a dealer ( can't get a trip permit apparently either) to look at it to write a letter.

I'll check with MTO again on Monday just to confirm.

After 2.5 months finally thought I had everything needed. Got to the registration office and I was told not problems until ... computer says JDM VIN is too short for Ontario system to recognize as valid. They checked with MTO and apparently I need proof VIN is associated with the vehicle. They suggested a letter from a dealer ?? stating the such. Anybody have to to this and what is the process

As long as all your paperwork has the same vin on it you are fine. Go to a different MTO office. Your shorter vin flags the system. All they need to do is call "Kingston" to have the flag removed. I just re-licenced two of my jdm's yesterday. Once your car is in the system it's just like any other.

Just to close this one off in case others get the same request.

Because it was never registered in Ontario, I needed to confirm VIN on the vehicle matched the documents (makes sense) and they wanted a dealer to do that. Easy enough once I found a dealer who knew what they wanted. Frustrating part was having to trailer it - my fault for not knowing when I purchased (would have been easier to get it to and from a dealer then)
