    Front plate required? -ONTARIO

Im curious about rules regarding front plates on ONTARIO cars.

I always thought it was required, but over the last few weeks, ive seen a JDM civic hatchback :sick2: , a new challenger and a nice F-150, all from ontario and missing front plates.

Can anyone give some insight? thanks much.

I believe you need it, and not sitting on the dashboard either.
I was pulled over twice in a week in my Accord in Toronto for having the plate on my dash (had a minor bumper-thumper and broke the license plate mounts)

Yeah, definitely not legal, they just haven't been caught yet...or they have been caught and are willing to pay the fine because they shudder at the concept of putting holes in their bumper. I have mine on, I don't want problems from cops...keep it on dude, it's one less thing for them to harass you about, which could lead to other tickets if you get one of those more "snarky" officers. Keep it on . It MUST be VISIBLY mounted on the front bumper on the vehicle (it doesn't matter which side it's off to, doesn't have to be perfectly centred).

I live in Ontario and see vehicles without front licence plates all the time, but technically they are legal, just like daytime running lights, but it is rare to see anyone pulled over because of it. Most sports cars like Ferrari's, Viper's, Maserati's, etc. don't have front licence plates.

I had mine off for a photo shoot and got pulled over the next day and slapped with a $110 ticker. Fought it and won, but still a hassle.

It is required by law, but its not enforced everywhere. I keep the front plate behind the windsheild for both my cars. No problems with cops in over a year.

However, if I can remember correctly the law says "the front plate must be visible" hence front windsheild. I had a buddy who got pulled over for it (rental car or something) and he stated that and the cop left him alone. That was probably chance though.

If I ever get pulled over for it I will mention it to get out of a ticket BUT I would mount it first chance I get. Better safe then sorry.

I have friends that have been pulled over for it being on the front bumper but not visible, and for it not being there at all. Every time they have been given a warning or a Ticket, but as long as they went to the Police station and showed they have corrected the problem the ticket was ripped up. I figure i have at least 1 freebie.
