    J-O you jinxed me !!

    Well, about 30 min after I replied to J-O's pm where he asked me if I got bothered by cops with my exhaust, and I said no, guess what....I got pulled over lol.

    The guy started off kinda rude, the first thing he said was

    "You're gonna turn the ignition so we can hear ourselves talk".....but in a rude way.

    Then he said he was going to do a test on my exhaust....goes to his car, takes out his little metal rod crap. I hear him fooling around out back for like 5 min and I'm thinking, you better not scrath my car or break anything dude.

    After finishing his rod test, he comes back to me and says "It would seem your exhaust is not compliant."

    I'm like "Oh really? Why is that?". He's like there are no restrictions in it to stop the sound, aka straight pipe." I just play dumb a little.

    He finishes off with "You'll get some information in the mail." and walks away. Never even did the dB test...

    :hit newb: :hit newb:

    They don't have to do a Db test...It seems that the test equipment has to be recalibrated too often and the results won't stand up in court. Apparently it's easier to just ram a rod up the exhaust and call it non conform. In Quebec now the SRT4 and Mazdaspeed 3 and STI are illegal from the factory. ( There are several ongoing cases about this). Doesn't the SQ know that all VWs have an straight pipe straight from the factory! They don't Have a clue about sound dynamics and noise cancellation.

    Gatineau-Metro right?

    I hate them so much...

    they pulled me over for my air intake on my Honda but they never did for having no muffler at all... I had lost it and had a pipe bent and installed instead...

    It depends of the type of tickets you get! If he says too loud then he MUST use the Db meter. But It need to be calibrated often and not all cops have it sooooooooooo... the runs the pole inside and call It not conform.
    If you fight In court it is hard to win for that. Db is easy to win but not conform is hard,. He has proof of everything.
    Now srt-4 and car's like that are legal because they come out of the factory like that. The law says : you can't modify an exhaust system from what the OEM manufacturer produced. That means putting straight pipes on any car that came out of the factory with silencers and cat is illegal. BUT if your car doesn't have any solencers or is straight pipe from the factory, you are 100% legal.

    That being said.... GTR were coming out of the factory straight pipe I've heard.......... so try to find info on this!!!

    DARKCAPO sorry dude!!!!!!!!!! hahahahah
    PS je vais te prendre des pics du sunvisor demain pour sur!

    Somehow even if they did come straight pipe, I doubt that would hold up.

    Because our cars weren't originally from Canada, the "it came like that from the factory" argument just doesn't cut it. Or else we wouldn't have to make all those modifications to our lights / reflectors, etc.

    The 15 year rule states that the car doesn't have to follow Transport Canada regulations as long as it is equipped as originally manufactured. Lets not kid ourselves, just try and find a stock Skyline...

    For now I'll just wait and see what they send me.

    With some spare time at work I did some research (sorry it's in french).

    Modification au système.

    Définition d'un système d'échappement et d'un silencieux selon la SAAQ
    Le système d'échappement doit comporter tous ses éléments notamment le collecteur, les tuyaux, le silencieux, les supports et les attaches.

    Aucun des éléments de ce système ne doit avoir été remplacé, enlevé, ajouté ou altéré de façon à augmenter le niveau sonore ou les risques de brûlure par rapport au système installé par le fabricant.

    Pour l'application de la présente sous-section, on entend par «silencieux» un élément qui a les caractéristiques suivantes:

    • il est composé d'une chambre d'expansion, d'un déflecteur ou de tout autre dispositif mécanique ou acoustique ou d'une combinaison de ceux-ci, qui sont fixés de façon permanente et qui sont particulièrement conçus par le fabricant du silencieux pour réduire le niveau sonore des gaz d'échappement du moteur;

    • son diamètre extérieur est plus grand que celui du collecteur;

    • il a été conçu par son fabricant pour le véhicule sur laquelle il est installé;

    • il ne doit pas porter de mention ou être identifié par son fabricant ou le fabricant du véhicule comme étant destiné à un usage spécial ou comme n'étant pas conçu pour être utilisé sur un chemin public;

    Sooooo....basically their rod test proves nothing. It doesn't say anything against straight pipe exhausts, as long as:

    1. the muffler contains a chamber and some sort of sound reduction components (which mine does). Which means their rod test is pure crap. There are numerous mufflers in which you can pass a straight object through, but that have sound reduction components. Mine goes from 4" to dual 2" straight, but the gas in the 2" area goes through a bunch of holes all along the 2" sides. You can even see it from the outside.

    2. you can modify the exhaust system, as long as you still have the same components and it doesn't make it louder than the factory one. In no way did the guy prove that my exhaust was louder than a stock one. And if indeed the stock Skyline exhaust is straight pipe, their test just proves that I have the same type of exhaust as the factory one...not that it matters really.

    Ah well, waiting time.
