hey im not sure where this belongs but.
some guy in a big 3/4 ton deisel pulling a trailer cut me off while changeing lanes and kinda clipped my front fender, would have been worse if i didnt slam on the breaks. anyways he tries getting away but im on the phone with the cops following, once he realizes this he pulls over, after having to stop at 2 red lights lol.

anyways just for the sake of him, im going to get an estimate done and take the cash, but the corner light is a little messed so i will need a new one and the rim is very scratched up to say the least. how can i find the prices for these 2 items or where can i even buy them?

and how hard is this to do? the cop gave me a blue slip with all his contact info on it but what happens if the guy doesnt pay me? should i just go through insurance?

i'd go through insurance just to be safe. But if the guy is offering a large sum of money. Like enough to buy the fender, light and a brand new paintjob, then take it. The hard part about body parts is paint, the colours will be slightly off with fading etc so it may look a little weird. Getting a new paintjob is best, but insurance doesnt always spring for that. You can pick up fenders from people in the sale section for about 200-300 bucks.

The fact that he tried to get away would be enough to convince me to go thru insurance. Based on your discription, it sounds like it's completely his fault so it won't efect you in anyway. The other guy will end up with higher rates, so meybe he'll just pull over next time eh.

the fender isnt realy mashed up at all a dent on top of the wheel and just scraped pretty good. but the only problem im having is sourceing a corner light and rim.
ill see what happens, the insurance office is closed til tuesday anyways.

Depends.

If it's small and you can get the job done without major repairs, I would keep it off insurance as much as possible.

We have enough things to deal with when it comes to inurance as it is. making a claim over anything $2000 really has no benefits as it still goes down as a claim on your record. Even if it's not your fault - they still hold it against you.

If he doesn't pay, small claims course is pretty much your only option if you want to keep it off the books.

i wouldnt say major repairs are needed, i noticed the fender is a little off its alignment. i wouldnt say a whole bunch but doesnt seem to line up with the door like by the front pillar it looks a little pushed up, but ill see what an autobody place says.

the guy is also from saskatchewan an has no insurance so the cop told me it will be way harder going through insurance than just settling a cash agreement.

also its an 89 gts-t but i was thinking of takign the cash and maybe this winter do a r34 conversion or something.i want to attempt doing everything on my car minus the tuning part. so the less hands that touch it the better for me.

well there is alot more damage than i thought there would be. im getting estimates of 2000$ plus.

i hope he pays becuase i think i could find a r34 front end atleast. or buy a rb25det.

im i aloud to take the cash for the damge and not get it fixed? or is that against the law.
