Thought I'd make this post as I was digging through the HTA anyways.
WHAT IS LEGAL (and what is not)
hmm where to start.
well, I guess with RHD:
http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/sta...08_e.htm#BK117 is the law covering right hand drive.
What this means is as long as you have turn signals you don't need a right hand drive sticker.
LIGHTING
http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/sta...08_e.htm#BK116
Note that as long as your bulbs don't have a coating on them they seem to be legal. It doesn't even mention HID's or RHD reflector patterns.
Radar Detectors
http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/sta...s_90h08_e.htm#
Exhaust systems
http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/sta...08_e.htm#BK131
The wording of the exhaust system law kind of sucks.
IANAL but it seems to me that motorcycles (pretty much all of them, sportbikes and harleys especially) are just flat out illegal and ignored by the police. There is no clear definition as to what is legal and what isn't. What level of noise constitutes "unnecessary" I am not sure.
I got that ticket once for doing a burnout, something that didn't make much noise at all. And I don't think that harley guys are even CLOSE to legal since there's nothing that even resembles a muffler on those vehicles at all, nevermind a quiet one.
SEAT BELTS
http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/sta...08_e.htm#BK168
Illegal to remove or modify the OEM seat belts in any vehicle.
Any other questions or opinions about the laws feel free to ask here, or refer to the above document. Those are the actual laws, if someone says something but it isn't in there, it's not the law. And if someone says something is OK but it's in there as not OK, it's illegal.
Also note that flaunting knowledge of laws infront of a police officer is a sure way to piss them off and get you tickets.
If you are recieving a ticket and you don't think you did something wrong, that's what court is for. Get a lawyer, and go have your day. Police officers and lawyers know more about this than you.
