    Importing on my own.

    Hey,

I was wondering if it would be better for me to import a skyline from UAE on my own or should I just stick with j-spec....love your mailing list man lol.

    Thanks

well when I brought my car in I paied a 600$ fee from Import Concern...IMO it's seriously worth it to save soo much time and trouble when you don't know what you're doing.

Be really careful with cars from UAE as lots of stolen cars are sent there from all over the world to get new papers then exported to other countries.

My opinion is a little one sided these days but many years ago I was once just a guy trying to import my own car too, and I found that it was a massive headache .. it cost a lot more than it should have because I didn't know what I was doing back then, and to be honest I didn't even realise that it was more expensive until I had imported quite a few others and worked out the proper way to do things.

In any case we would be happy to help you get a great car - PM me with details of what you are after and the budget you have so I can show you what's out there that might be suitable. I am sure that you will realise that the fee you pay us isn't just to help with importing but also to find cars that you couldn't access otherwise, advise on cars and the process, and much more.

stolen cars are no more....Interpol have taken over that "free zone" where the stolen cars resided.

it was stolen car haven 7-8 years ago, not anymore....

Interpol's doing a quality job then, because sometime last year 3 landcruisers were found (one in UK, one in NZ and one in Aus) all with the same history, chassis numbers and identification, all three were siezed and the owners given no compensation.

Besides, if you bought a car from the UAE, wouldn't you be paying 2 times the taxes and twice the frieght costs, effectively meaning you'll spend a lot more than the J-Spec brokerage fee.

The only advantage I can see of getting one out of the UAE is that they do LHD conversions on skylines, but as one of the guys on SAU reported when he went up there to check one out, the quality of the conversion leaves a bit to be desired.

its still possible, but harder to find stolen ones...

if the stolen cars were exported to Africa, and then re-exported, it would be much harder to combat.

exporting from the free zone in the UAE inccurs no taxes.

LHD conversion quality all depends on the $$$

a AUS $2000 job will provide with a a somewhat high quality job

    importing a GT-R

why would it be easier to import a Skyline from the UAE? The car still has to be 15 yrs old and have DOT equipment on it. The issue isn't the RHD. I would think that you are better off importing a car from Japan. At least there are lots of places to buy from and you get all the proper paperwork. Some guy in UAE would probably sell you some car that is junk, not 15 yrs old and not give you complete paperwork.

I have imported about 50 vehicles from Japan and know exactly what needs to be done. It''s not that big of a deal.
