    importing GT-R

    hello,

I am fed up of the average price for a R32 GT-R in Vancouver being 13,000

I would like to import a R32 GT-R from Japan.

    http://www.daishintrading.com/stock/...AN/N21031.html

    I was looking at this.

does anybody know the steps required to send a car here ?

also, how much would it cost.

I would like to find a GT-R at around 8000.

Before that car leaves Japan you're going to be into it for over $6G.
To get it shipped here and on the road will cost quite a bit more in fixed fee's.

Quote I ran this morning on XE pegged 470,000 yen at $5400 cdn (which sounds right given that yen to dollar ratio at the moment).

$4230 puts the dollar eqaul to about 110 yen. This is not corrct though. The yen is currently trading at about 86-87 yen per dollar.

Tack on things like inland shipping and an inspection and you're pushing $6,000 ish.

In any case, its difficult to get a decent qaulity GTR that wont require a second bank account (in repairs) for $8,000 landed. The fixed costs alone of shipping to BC and brokerage fee's can be half that.

There will be shipping fee of $1200 US RO RO

Custom fees of about approx 500 depending on value. (assuming you know how to do your own paper work)

Temp insurance of 30 bux per day (you can only buy one day temp permit until it gets inspected)

Inspection of about 300 (assuming your car will pass) requires DOT lights side markers, DOT tires etc.

Once inspected you will have to pay HST from ICBC to insure the car (12% x 470,000 (whatever is its value that that point)) normally refers to as the value of goods being imported.

So look at it this way:
    1200 US = (1245.85 CAD)
    500
    30 x 2
    300
    470,000 = (5427.96 CAD ) x 12% = 651.35
    5427.96+651.35+1245.85+500+60+300 = 8185.16

(not to mention you will need DOT headlights, side markers, and dot tires to say the lease)

You can get a decent R32 for $8,000-$12,000. There was a sweet bayside blue one up for sale on this site, and on Kijiji for $10,000, that was already saftied, plated, and insured.

Trust me when I say this, as a person who's is currently going through the process of importing, you're better off to buy a car that has already landed in Canada.

If you do choose to import a car by yourself, you're gonna end up being worried about getting scammed and losing all your money, then having to go to international court... on the bright side, let's say you don't get scammed, you still have to wait 6-7 weeks until you get to see or touch the car, which sucks- the car may (will) get damaged during shipping, oh, and don't forget the fact that you just sent all your money overseas to somebody you dont know.

Oh! BTW! On top of all of that, expect to pay at LEAST six grand to get it to your house and plate the car.

Sorry for the wake up call bud

Well i dont recomend buying off a random site like that myself..

but hey go for it 470,000Yen for a GTR.. Meh..
flipridah17 has his break down pretty much correct..

THis is how i see it:
    $5500 - Car Cost
    $1100 - Shipping
    $65 - Port Fee's
    $50 - Soil inspection
    $100 - A/C Tax
    $335 - Duty
    $275 - GST
$15 - Temp permit to drive it to your house.

$7440.. at your house.. now you get to deal with the all the mechanical issues, and other things.. but in a perfect world (The one i live in) your other costs would be:
    $250 - Inspection
    $660 - HST
    $15 - another Temp permit

$8365 Total registered, and ready to rock.. sounds good..

I say go for it.. and if you run into any issues.. you can always get me to help you deal with them..
