How to Install a ViPEC PNP ECU in an R32

The first thing you need to do is locate your factory ECU. This is found in the kick panel on the passenger side. Below is a picture of your factory Kick Panel

You then need to remove the fastner on the bottom of the kick panel as seen in the picture below.

You now need to use a 10mm socket to remove the wiring harness from the factory ECU and also to remove the ECU from the car. Look for the 10mm bolts attaching the ecu into the car. Here is a picture of the ECU. You can see the harness is attached with a 10mm bolt going all the way through the harness plug into the ECU plug. The harness comes out slowly by turning that bolt counter clockwise.

You will need to remove the stock board from your ecu case. There are four screws on each of the flat sides you will need to remove all of these. You will also need to remove the screws on the sides as well as all the screws through the connector as well. You will know you are finished when the board is in your hand. Some performance ECU's from Japan make it a little tricky because they epoxy the rom chip in place and sometimes get epoxy on the sides You will need to cut the board away from the ECU if this is the case.

Don't forget to remove the side screws as well.

Now your ViPEC works on Speed Density and if you plan on running the internal map sensor you will need to drill a hole to run your vacuum line in. Place your ViPEC in the case(do not bolt it in as you are only figuring out where to drill a hole) making note of the dirrection that the Map sensor is pointing. Figure out the best way to run the vacuum line and drill a hole in the side case of course you will have your ViPEC nowhere even close to the drill. This is where I chose to drill the hole for the vacuum line.

This is your USB connector you need to make sure you have a hole big enough to feed the white end into the ecu case. I have found that just elongating a hole in the back of the case usually the hole where the diagnostic switch is works just fine.
Make sure you tighten all the fasteners back up where they used to be this will give your ViPEC better strength on the electrical plugs. Note the fasteners on the blue connector.

    Feeding the USB Connector

Connecting the USB Connector to the Right Spot

Notice how I ran my vacuum line in a straight line with the ViPEC Map sensor. It is really strong but I see no need in testing how strong it is by pulling at on an angle. I generally cut a 12 inch section of vacuum line and feed it into the ECU case. This will allow me to add a vacuum joiner on the end to connect to the main vacuum line we will be running from the engine bay. I also zip tie the end on my map sensor. By having a vacuum joint I can easily remove my ECU from the car without having to open the ECU case and disconnect the vacuum line from the map sensor.

im quite intrigued by this and somewhat interested in ViPEC when im going to get my car tuned. my main concern would be support. is there anyone else in canada that sells this product let alone tune it? also, how much is the initial cost of buying it and how long would it take to produce a good tune from scratch when its installed?

Just give cam at Lightspeed a quick ring, he'll fill ya in. You'll like the answers you'll get and they won't be as vague or open ended as MB replies sometimes tend to be
