Cool Skyline GTR detailed to showroom condition. 99% correction.

Now, this is what I call true detailing with correction..! Not your regular wash , clay 'n wax.

This week-end, I had the chance to work on a beautiful Skyline GTR. My goal was to put it back to its SHOWROOM condition. Time and money was not a restreint for me, the goal was to achieve a 99% correction on it. I’m also proud to show to the detailers and members that I can do an ''extreme or xcessiv (ching ching)'' detailing job

    Before :

Hard to see, but there are some holograms due to the tiny swirls on the paint.

    Wheel well needs detailing!

    Contaminants on windows

    Bournish tires!

    CHAPTER 1 : WASHING

    2 bucket method

    Real sheapskin mitt
    MF Drying towel
Air compressor with rubber tips for cracks
    Ultra-look Degreaser
    Ultra soft brush
    Wheel brush

Did you really think I'd forget the gas door!

Difficult to wash corner on the wing

Very important to have a rubber tip to avoid scratching the paint!

See how clean one bucket is and the other is turning dark!? After I dipped my mitt in the bucket on the right, I dip it in the left bucket where there's barely any grimes so I'm less likely to scratch my paint.

    CHAPTER 2: Clay bar

This clay bar is ideal for removing paint overspray, tar, sap, road grimes and other contaminants that do not come off whith a regular wash. Rims, paint, windows, everything was clayed!

    Product:
    ''Poorboys spray and wipe''
    Riccardo blue clay bar

    Not that bad seriously!

There were more contaminants in the windows than in the paint.

    CHAPTER 3 : PREPPING.

The preparation consists in taping trims, plastic, badges and any other thing that could be damaged by the polisher. Then, I take many measures on the paint to see how thick it is so I know what kind of correction I will be doing.

Paint is in EXCELLENT SHAPE and ready for a full correction.

    Chapter 4: CORRECTION

    product:

    Makita 9227
Compound intensif | Yellow LC CCS pad
Compound intensif | Orange LC CCS pad
Wolfgang TSR3.0 Polissage intensif | Green coarse LC CCS pad
Polissage intensif | White LC CCS pad
Wolfgang FG 3.0 Polissage doux | Blue LC CCS pad
    Chemical Guys apron micro-fibre
    DP pad conditonner
    The pad cleaner
2x 250w spot light to inspect work
Brinkmann DUAL pivot LED to inspect holograms
    Wolfgang twin applicator pad

Before starting any correction on the paint, you have to do a test spot to make sure that the correction you are about to do is safe, doesn't creat haze, have the correction you want.

Here's an exemple of a square test spot

    Before :

    After :

    Before: Rear fender

    HÉHÉ tadam!:

Here's an exemple where the WG applicato comes really handy and show what *detailing* is all about. I couldn't leave a big spot like this uncorrected. I had to do it.

See the circular marks on the right? My pad must have been too caked of polish and needed to get a few spritz of pad conditionner and the orange tool to clean my pad. Obviously, I redid my section to make sure I didn't create any marks.

Here's some after-shot after my 5 compounding passes!

    Chapter 5 : Wheels

    Product:
    Wolfgang hand applicator
Compound intensif | Orange 4' LC flat pad
Light polishing | White 4' LC CCS pad
    Pad conditionner
    1x Klasse sealant
    2x High temp Wheel sealant
    1x Collonite 476 wax
    3 coat of tire protector

Here's how you know if your wheel have cleat coat or not, if your metal polish remains white after buffing, your wheel are clear coated. This means that I can polish them using paint compound.

    Somes imperfections :

    After:

Chapter 6 : Polishing plastics and windows

    Plastic polish
    Glass polish
3.5 inch white LC CCS PAD
    Pad conditionner
    AQUAPEL

Polishing the tailight using my drill adaptor and a plastic polish :

It's really hard to show what a windows polishing does but it removes all contaminants, make the glass smooth. After applying AQUAPEL rain repellent to the glass, the water will bleed crazy times and be protected for the next 6 month.

    Brake cleaner
    steel wool

    Rear strut bar:

    Before :

Here's how the motor was last summer, aluminium cover was not polished.

    Now it's polished but dirty!

Keep in mind this engine is 20yr old, even if I keep scrubbing like crazy, those stains doesn't seems to want to go.

Hey guys, I'm sure you were like : ''hey dude, you are not done, you forgot the gaz tank under the car !'' HAHA, you guys don't know me well then lol!
