  • Guage Cluster Removal

So I've bought some LED's to replace my existing bulbs in my gauge cluster and I have been doing lots of reading on our garbage plastic speedo cables keep breaking.

Now my question is, Is there a special procedure to remove the gauge cluster and speedo cable so i don't break anything. Having never done this before on a skyline I'd rather know the correct way before it costs me more money and a huge head ache? And whats is the best method to reinstall the cable?

    Thanks Guys

when Ed @ Jzgarage did it, he just carefully loosened the clips (the left radio is a BITCH) then pulled the cluster forward, no vertical movement. (easier with removing the steering column cover)

Then I noticed my fuel guage light didn't turn on at empty, so I opened it again to flip the led around (polarity) I did the same thing, pulled it straight forward, then for reinstallation just carefully push straight in. Line up the hole to the speedo connector. No fancy tricks to it. Just be careful and move slowly unless you are sure. As for installation of the speedo cable (replacement) I have no clue.

    good luck.

Oh ic so the cable is hard mounted, its not like something that pulls out with the cluster and then remove it. When i pull the cluster it unplugs and when i reinstall it by pushing everything clips back together. Is that correct?

Will do thanks man. To be honest i'm getting all my info on it right now. I have a bunch of parts all stuck in richmond due to "poor weather conditions". If they consider rain poor enough weather to not deliver to kamloops. haha

Yes pull it out gently (haha that's what she said [Office insert]) then no damage occurs. Reverse for installation.

mine broke last summer when installing my white face cluster, so i had to pull the white plastic key out and glue it together then tape it so it didnt seperate while curing. Once this was finished, slapped it back together and WhaM....it works again. So if it does break on you dont panic, but when pulling the key out watch you dont lose the spring (also remembering to re-install it back in the key) when putting it back together.

18yr old plastic just gets brittle. lol
