  • Modifying your intake

Well I searched around here and SAU but couldn't find any solid info.

Today I had my front bumper off and was cleaning my intercooler when I decided to remove the stock air baffling box thing underneath the filters. It's pretty useless and eats up space for no reason, so I yanked it out.

Now I have the perfect spot for some piping to redirect cold air up to my filters. The only problem is that I would have to cut a hole (probably 4-6" diameter) in the metal directly underneath the filters.

Will this affect anything in a negative way? I'm not sure if it'll affect the structural rigidity of the car or anything like that.

Also, does the stock GTS-T have a hole in that spit for the side-mount intercooler? I've never seen one up close before!

Yes, right under the air box on a gts-t there are 2 holes for the smic.....there will be no problem with cutting a hole there, just make sure you make the hole look good, and do it in a tasteful manner.....no one likes ghetto mods....

Yeah no ghetto mods for me I did some more research into it and a lot of R32 owners cut a hole there. Time to get to work!

Sounds like a nice idea and it should increase HP a bit.
That being said, a hole cut right underneath the air filters will give nice easy access to cold air but also to dirt and water. not very good on air filters!
I still have the stock air filter box on mine, so I'm not too sure how it looks like. I'm just going according to your description. It could be a valuable point I made though!
