  • Twin Plate clutch decision

Due to recent events i need to start considering options for a new clutch.

    1 Exedy twin plate clutch
2 Nismo Super coppermix twin plate
    3 ORC Twin plate
    4 OS Giken Twin plate
    5 Cusco twin plate

So far, the Exedy is winning to me as it is super light and has a good rep. Same with the Cusco, comes highly recommended. The Nismo Coppermix has a great rep but is heavy.

I want a Clutch kit that comes with a light flywheel. Anyone have some insight or experience they care to share?

'90 GTR 2 tone 350z blue/black, Volk TE37s, Greddy intercooler and suction kit, Blitz BOV, Splitfire coils, Greddy gauges, HKS oil filter relo / oil cooler, Rear LSD, HKS hypermax II suspension, soon to have new turbos.

I give a vote for the os gliken RC4 quad plate.

But on a serious note i say go for the exedy twin plate.
I found the hks and os gliken were always noisy but that is something you live with.

I would also recomend the jun light weight flywheel at 5.7kg butthat all depends on what you plan to use your car for. Going lighter means you loser the inertia and it can use it off the line if you plan on dropping the clutch.

Still looking for input. Need to buy new twin plate clutch with light flywheel within the month.

I thought i would grab these parts while im swapping clutches anyways.
46211-RS580 Nismo Clutch Hose (price JPY 5550)
30620-RS580 Nismo Bigger Clutch Cylinder (price JPY 11090)
30537-RS581 Nismo HD Clutch Pivot (price JPY 2380)
46550-RS585 Nismo HD clutch Bracket (price JPY 6400)
(25,420 Japanese Yen or $242 CDN for all these Nismo parts. Plus shipping ofcourse)

Then i never have to concern myself with the clutch for a long time.

I dunno about you guys but I hate my double plate clutch, I don't know what brand it is, but it makes so much chatter noise.. soooo annoying.

How much power are you putting down?
I don't recommend a twin plate, or any other clutch that has a really rough engagement, unless you absolutely need it.

I have a twin plate now and enjoy it. I want to replace it with the same type.

Twin plate clutches center their mass better than any single disk and combined with a light flywheel gives even quicker revs up and down. Ive also found that the Exedy and Cusco clutches dont have that annoying "twin plate rattle" when the clutch pedal is pushed in.

i have the os twin plate with lighten flywheel. i love it. but it's pretty hard to press(i like that, too a point) and most people who drive my car don't like the heavyness of it. the only draw back for me is that it is damn noisy. but u get used to it. kind of funny cause people always think theres something wrong with the car.

my twin plate was the first clutch I ever had...

I find others regular clutch strange.

now that I've driven my other manual car for a week .. and got back into the skyline.

I have to say that I really enjoy the feeling and response of a twin plate :P

I have an ORC Twin Plate that came with a lightened flywheel and I like it quite a bit more than my original Nismo single plate. It has the typical twin plate chatter, engine revs noticeably quicker, and it grabs REAL hard. this is great, but I kinda find it a pain in stop-and-go traffic and parallel parking. Don't get me wrong though, it's totally worth it!

We installed the Nismo Twin Plate clutch in our GTR... it's a sprung clutch so the pedal feel is similar to stock, but you have the strength of the twin plate.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO chatter in this twin. The clutch comes already mounted with a lightened flywheel; install is simple.

We picked up our clutch from Daryl at JDM SPEEDSHOP.

                        Just my 2 cents.

                        Thanks!

Thanks everyone for all the input.

Mitch, the pics in your thread and the info there helped a bunch.

Looks like its Nismo Clutch time. Price is half decent on it too.

Glad to hear, you won't be disappointed; don't forget to replace your release bearing while you're replacing the clutch.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Nismo twin plate. I will be picking one of these up in the next month.
