    N.A. production of the skyline

i read this recently and thought i'd post, chances are you're all gonna yell "use the search function" but i had no effin clue on how i'd search for this:

:NEW YORK (April 12, 2006) – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. President and CEO Carlos Ghosn today announced that the next generation of Nissan’s renowned GT-R performance car will be available in North America and badged as a Nissan model (not Infiniti as previously thought), consistent with its global branding. The GT-R, which was previewed in concept form as the GT-R PROTO (shown above), has not previously been offered for sale in North America. The GT-R will debut in production form at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. It is scheduled to go on sale in Japan in Fall 2007, followed by the U.S. and Canada in Spring 2008. More details on the launch of the GT-R will be available at a later date.

In 2008, Nissan may begin sales of the next generation GT-R in America - priced to compete with the Chevrolet Corvette. The car is expected to sport a Nissan VQ V6 engine with twin-turbos, or NA V8. VQ30DETT has been already successfully tested in JGTC in an R34 Skyline GT-R during 2003, where the GT-R came out a victor in GT500 class, while a naturally aspirated VQ35DE-powered Nissan 350Z took the GT300 class prize.

As a precursor to the introduction of the GT-R in the United States, privateer Igor Sushko has announced plans of racing the R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R (Z-tune model)in the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge. This will mark the first time the Nissan Skyline GT-R will compete in a professional road race series in North America."

Believe me when I say NISMO, Nissan, Skyline, etc.. have become an unhealthy obsession with me. I have never truly been a fan of lots of things in my life, but there was something about the GT-R that truly "MADE SENSE" and gave me hope in life for some reason. As weird as that sounds.

The GT-R imho has ALWAYS been about racing, it didn't matter that the engine was undersized, it didn't matter that it didn't cost to $300,000 to make. There was always one thing about the GT-R that appealed to me. That word was POTENTIAL. The potential to make copious amounts of horespower out of a puny 2.6L engine, the ability to grip the track with an AWD system that is very unique and deserves to be. The way the car moves around corners and has this "aura" of Godzilla.

Sadly, when I see the new GT-R.. all I see is a huge pig on 4 oversized wheels. I mean, Nissan hasn't provided much information, but there have been so much talk about it being only RWD and based on the VQ series motors that it is truly disheartening. I mean, I like the VQ engine, but honestly ITS some plain jane. I mean they us the VQ35DE in the Nissan QUEST. Thats a frickin minivan. If they put the SAME engine and twin turbo it in a GT-R.. you honestly think that'll help credibility on the GT-R's end? The RB26 was built specifically to destroy everyone in the JGTC, the VQ35 was not.

Anyways, enough of my ranting. Till we hear more from Nissan, I'm truly disappointed by this overweight pig we call a GT-R.

How to fix this? Cosworth better truly be helping Nissan vamp up the VQ engine, and Lotus/Getrag better be offering us the best in terms of the suspension/drivetrain department.
