  • Could use some help...

So I'm in this program at school, the infamous Semester in Dialogue at SFU. It's a pretty sweet program credit wise (15 credits and I've written two papers, one being a group research project and I'm planning a "Gallery" on the 20th) but it's kinda getting to me... it's all about sustainability and while they bitch about SUV's and everything else on the earth that isn't hybrid or an electric train for that matter I sit there like a hypocrite browsing GTRC on my iTouch. It's weird that I've read so much but have like 8 posts, but typing on that thing is KIND OF a bitch.

Anyways, as for the feedback. Everyone including the profs know that I'm in love with cars, particularly the ones that push you back into your seat when you put the pedal to the floor. I was challenged by my professors to do my final project on why humans as a species craves this. Why are famous designers/psychologists designing the interiors of the H2 etc etc. So my question to you, which will serve as part of my surveying efforts is what attracts you to these cars? What attracts you to the Skyline? Is it emotional? Is it the adrenaline? Even then, there's something that draws each and every one of us to the Skyline; we have 16 year old GTR's selling for more than a 2004 350Z on Craigslist. Essentially, Why do you love your Skyline? And what in human nature has bread us to be this way?

Anyways any feedback would be awesome. I'm here for the intelligent answers. I'll head over to RevScene for the oh so expected "Carbon fiber is fun to look at, whale tails make my penis grow and chicks dig ridiculously huge body kits and heavy-ass gee'd out reemz" responses.
DISCLAIMER: If any of the above comments in this post hurt your feelings you are likely taking me too seriously; I'm probably just busting your balls. If you're unsure, feel free to PM me and we can discuss the matter privately, as to not pull the thread OT.

well i love driving a car...and well my car in general...watching the world go by, and being able to finally be free...turbos helped me do that...haha and they put you right into your seat...but at the same time its the passion that comes with the car and building it yourself, or being able to have the satisfaction of showing others what youve done...or scaring the hell out of them with boost..

i desire it because...its pushing the limits of mans creation and gods creation as well...im not gunna get into religion but driving my car was like the first realization that i actually could be free from the restraints of life...if your pissed off..you go for a drive...and some how everything is better and i have a smile on my face...

we created cars/engines and they give us the ability to push the limit of what god created...

your in my sig...that line was epic...good call Stevo

I personally don't own a Skyline, but if I had one, I'd say the ones people are building are as diverse as the people that drive them. There's usually something in a Skyline that sets it apart from the once next to it It takes personal preference to work with any car, but a Skyline has many other aspects about it that diversifies it from other cars. More scrutinizing is needed to go fast, over other cars that are "Me put in parts, me go fast". It's a change from those cookie-cutter cars out there designed for point A/point B trips.

        Just my 2 cents...

Yea I had a feeling someone would like that. EDIT: It's so awesome that after 8 posts I'm already quoted in someones signature.

Deviant, I wanted to go for a drive after I read your post, if only it could be in a fantastic GTR like yours (if I'm not mistaken you're selling... and I THINK I know where your pics were taken) and not my balls-less Ford. Someones got the signature on here; Speed Kills, Drive a Ford.

As well you guys all gave some wicked insight. Keep it coming guys this is awesome.

For me it's the way the Skyline drives, handles. The feedback through steering wheel, drivers seat makes you one with the car. What I mean by feedback, is you feel the bumps in road, so know how to adjust your driving. I feel the same thing when driving a Primera or riding in a GTR. Nissan's in general have that feeling, but the Skyline feels just right and R32 is very light, nimble handling wise and fun to drive (rear moves around) which is what I like more than a GTR. GTR has more grip due to 4wd and can push the limits safely when cornering or exiting a corner.

A modified GTR engine has a similar feeling at peak hp as an old school stockish bigblock Pontiac Firebird which just hauls (with similar peak hp). Although I wish the RB26 had the same bottomend feeling as the bigblock in the Pontiac Firebird. In the R35 they seemed to have solved this problem with bigger capacity motor. This is one car I would like to experience to see if they have fixed the bottomend problem. If I could fit a Nissan Titan V8 engine into a Skyline, I would, just for better drivability off boost.

American manufacturers need to look back at the older cars, as they had that feeling. Not so much 100% improving on the looks of the older cars and throwing in newer technology. Some new cars are just to easy to drive (more for safety, comfort) than raw feedback through steering wheel, etc. For performance cars you need that raw feedback that makes you go wow this is fun to drive.

Although electric sports cars, like from Dodge are the new performance cars -

the thing is though..... if ur really into it just to go fast then u really arnt into skylines. U can make any car go fast!!

For me its the style of the skyline and the heritage that makes me want a skyline over other cars. knowing ur brand of car has paved the way and is continuing the pav the way in the japanese domestic market alone with the amazing racing past it has had...... that is what makes me want a skyline over anything else.

Its human nature to wanna get an adreniline kick.... so why not get one every day when driving. If thats through heavy boost, sideway drifting or simply being behind the wheel of a piece of history.... take ur pick

That's true about making any car that can go faster. I've seen one homemade car in a magazine with a 185hp Hayabasa engine (weighs something like 420kg without driver) that laps 2 sec per lap faster than a 700hp GTR or EVO. The homemade racecar cost's alot less to run, build and last's longer brakepad, tyre wise.

well i have only owned 2 cars... my skyline, and a cavalier. It's like night and day driving the 2. Even a buddy of mine who owns an s13 silvia likes my gts. He even said "wow i wish my silvia handled as good as this car"

This will help immensely, I do believe, with your paper... not to mention it's an incredibly good watch!

ever hear of Jeremy Clarkson's "Speed" documentary?

                      Well, here it is:

                      http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...13967023&hl=en

There are 6 Parts to this as follows:
                      Ep1: the thrill of speed
                      Ep2: superstars of speed
                      Ep3: surviving speed
                      Ep4: nature fights back
                      Ep5: superhuman speed
                      Ep6: the century of speed

I've linked up the first one there because it's quite relevant to your paper, but you'll probably want to watch all of them if you've got any sort of brain.

I'm also gonna post this in OT so other people will watch it!

                        Raijin,

I'm very excited to watch these videos. I need to watch a few others as well (who killed the electric car etc). I should be quite educated on this by the end of it (hey, I think that's the goal anyways). Does anyone know of the "Famous Designer" that designed the interiors of the H2 and a couple Chryslers?
