  • Tranny / clutch probs...

    So... Just recently...
Ive been fighting With the gts-t type m
    Tranny clutch related issues...
After I fight a couple minutes to get it into 1st gear... when I switch from 1st to 2nd... I hear a loud bang coming from the rear of the car... And when I shift from 2nd to 3rd.. It doesnt seem like it wants to stay in 3rd... (it does stay but the shifter shakes like crazy....)
When I just let it idle...It feels like the Tranny wants to jump outta the car...(Sometimes...not always....)
4th and 5th gears are fine.
I had it in 1st the other day waiting for the light to turn green and The rpm Dropped below 1 and almost stalled until I put it in N and gave it a shot of gas so it wouldnt die on me
Advice or suggestions would be apreciated...
    Thanks!. .

Hey Nat, welcome to the exciting world of a 15 year old car.

As for the idle problems I suggest you read my thread in the GTS Tech section called fix your hesitation. Go through all of those, that should sort out the running issues. It will make your car overall run LIKE NEW once your finished, just ask ryan how his car runs lol. It was my old car and I would tune it up every weekend just to make sure it was in spec.

Anyways, as for the thumping it sounds like your Ujoints are going, and your rear engine mount is toast. I'm not an expert on dropping trannies or drive shafts, but that is your problem. I can't tell you how to fix it other than replacing the joints/mounts. I think you can get your ujoints done for around $300.00 if I remember another member quoting that correctly.

Good luck, but a good place to start would be the fix your hesitation thread, by the sounds of the idle dropping like that you could have a bad vacuum leak.

Btw, just read your intro thread before this one, Welcome to GTRC . Good people on here, if I was in AB I'd come help ya. Sadly I'm in B.C.

Another option would be http://www.autodream.ca/, They are the local Skyline specialists. I'm not crazy on their parts pricing but they know their stuff. You could always pay htem for a couple of hrs to give it the once over and let you know what issues you have.

I would start with kelaog's suggestion and clean your MAF's, check plugs and coil resistance. etc...
