    Alberta Insurance Question

    Hi guys,

My GTR will be arriving in a week or two, and seeing as Alberta is de-regulated with regards to insurance, I'm looking for suggestions for a good insurance company to go with. Would like to hear your experiences/thoughts, as well as the prices you had to pay.

The car will first be registered in BC, and then AFAIK I just need an out of province request form and an inspection in order to register it here. On that note, any places you'd recommend for an inspection in Edmonton?

    Thanks in advance,

    Peter

For the inspection, I recommend Walter at Auto Infinity - 10620 98 St, 414-6665. Myself, Damien (Icydude) and many others have gone to him.

As for insurance, I'm with Morgex, and my insurance company is Royal & Sun Alliance. You'll definitely want an appraisal for full coverage insurance, because nobody knows what these cars are worth.

As mentioned many times before, bring as much paperwork as you possibly can when insuring/registering etc..

If the people at the registries are damn fools (many of them have their own ideas what the proper process is for JDM cars), try either the one by the Mayfield hotel, or the one in St. Albert.

    Good luck 8)

    Thanks for the tips guys.

Well, that's the thing. I'm not going to have a lot of time to shop around for insurance quotes as I need the car registered right away and my days tend to be pretty hectic, so I was hoping you guys could suggest the places where you had yours registered, and roughly how much it set you back.

If you need an in-transit permit it's $22 for 7 days. You'll need some temporary insurance too. Once the out of province inspection is done you can get reagular insurance and hit up the registry and get a plate.

At least, that's the way I did it.

Out of province inspection was about $125 with tax, and the registration itself was about $50. That price all depends on how soon your renewal month is.

You could try Morgex, I know a few Skylines are insured through them. There really shouldn't be any problems with them. The PLPD will cost the same as whatever you're paying right now, and for collision, fire/theft/vandalism they need an appraisal.

RML Appraisals does them for Morgex, they're actually just on the other side of the building, and it's free for Morgex customers. You shouldn't need an appointment, I didn't. Only took about 10 minutes.

Hope some of that helps ya

How are all of you guys pulling down such low insurance numbers? Back last year I almost had a GT-R in my garage but it turned out insurance would cost me $10,000 / year. :?
