    Icbc x rhd

hi i am not sure if this is news or not, but i just found this out and hopefully i can help others....

ICBC ARE currently trying to take RHD cars off the road, many ICBC Claim regarding ur RHD car, will automatically be written off. Here is the email i got from ICBC

    From: Jennifer.Kwan@icbc.com
    To: Jennifer.Kwan@icbc.com; felixyuen1018@hotmail.com
Subject: RE: YOUR ICBC CLAIM No. P074134 3 / 1990 NISSAN SKYLINE

    Hi Felix,

I spoke the manager that handles vehicle estimating and he confirms RHD vehicles are being taken off the road. The parts too expensive and also you don’t have an engine in the vehicle which further depreciates the value.

I am going to close the file

    Thank you

hope this is news for u all

Old news. They write off any claims greater than a few hundred bucks.

They can't physically take your car off the road by denying insurance but can write your car off.

    What did you claim anyways?

seems like a breach of contract...

.. that's what they did with my 88 scirocco..
..I asked the adjuster if they had a mandate to get these cars (older) off the road,, he said YES
...if they're playing that game with older cars I'm sure they won't have a problem playing that game with RHD's

Ya this has been happening for about 2 or so years now.. any kinda accident in your RHD car, and ICBC just write them off, and sells them at auction for Dismantle only.. (Then people like me buy and part them out)

id be more concerned about when they finally try and ban all rhd from canada though that does suck quite about but icbc has always liked to write stuff off left right and center cause they would love for you to just buy new cars.

They won't dare be that blatent, but, they can accomplish the same thing over time by writing the cars off. You will find that most provinces will go that route with older cars in some vane attempt to get "gross polluters" off the road.

If you have a mint, close to stock car with only about 50k to 100k km on it though you can fight a write-off like anyone else with a collector car (RHD or not). You only need to prove value (easy to do) and hopefully the cost of repair is less than 50% of that.

Or, piss on them, don't claim and fix it yourself if you have a sentimental attachment to your car.
