  • Info On Owning a Skyline In Ontario

Hey i'm new to the board. I'm 17 years old and from ontario. In the futur (4 years if everything turns out as I want it to be) I'll be looking at purchasing a Skyline GTS-t. Some problems I see is that around here we only have 91 octane gas and i'm not sure if that is good enough for the engine as I am looking at making 300 RWHP. Other things are where could I buy coilovers and other mods for it? I allready have another bank acount where I put away money just for a car and all the rest goes to a college fund ( Going to college for automotive technician so it's going to be cool ). So hopefully in 4 years i'll be driving a R32 or R33 GTS-t and if you guys can answer any of my questions please do.

Running 91 octacane gass won't be a problem. Yeah sure, they say run 94 but most of the time you can only get that quality at the track or the gas stations close to the track (at least in Calgary)

Crash, not sure where you live in Ontario but drive by a Sunoco station and take a look...you might be surprised.

Good luck on saving money, chances are in 4 yrs you migth be into another car (or another hobby altogether!).

Well I live in northern ontario and I've never seen a Sunoco gas station although I think that Petro canada they have 93 octane. Well i'm into drifting and I was always looking into a 86 or 240sx but I would like to get a skyline just to be different and this site has alot of info so if I ever have a problem i'm sure I can get help here. Sure if I had a 240sx I could just do an sr20 swap but everyone has that. I like the fact that when people will see the skyline they'll reconize it as a monster and i'll probbaly get some respect

Respect doesn't come from what car you drive, it comes from:
            a) how you drive
            b) how you present yourself

If the reason you are buying a Skyline is to get respect, don't.
            Buy a Topaz.

You're 17, have less than a year's driving experience and you want a Skyline to earn respect.

Save your pennies, come back in a few years and we'll see what we can do to help you out.

Normaly, I would usualy rip on a young noob such as yourself but I`m feeling generous today. Suffice to say that the respect you seek is now farther away than it was three days ago. :hit newb:

I had a 17 year old kid PM me on TSR and ask if he could trade a bunch of electronics (probably stolen) for my car.

I was like... wow... even IF he had $23,000 worth of STOLEN electronics.. wtf would I do with it?!

well I didn't mean respect as in that way I meant it as being original because I haven't seen many rwd skylines in Pro drifting I dont even think there's any in the Formula D. And i'm not a noob i've been around the drifting community for about 2 years. Sure i've never drifted in real life but still doesn't make me a noob. I just wanted some info on how you owners like the car and maintain it.

It's not a very good drift car.

i'm not looking a building a total drift car but a good daily driver and weekend racer. I dont know what I said wrong but why all the insults and discouragements, if you guys are putting the car down why do you drive them? I just wanted some help geez, is it that hard to come by?

OK, enough already. The put down and insults were because you seemed to link the ownership of a Skyline with getting respect. We don't know anything about you so assume you are just some punk kid with grand ideas when you make a statement like that. We probably should just ignore it - but we are a fairly tight knit group of enthusiasts here who show a common interest in a specific vehicle - and that's why we are here. We don't own a Skyline to just "get some respect".

The R32 GT-R as it was introduced in 1989 was really a homologation vehicle designed to be Nissan's flagship at the time for Group A racing. As such, the car was designed as a "grip" car - with the AWD & HICAS technology developed to provide the driver with one of the most sophisticated "driver" platforms in the Japanese auto industry in it's day. As such, the GT-R platform is not well suited to drifting. There are better platforms for this in lighter RWD configurations - cars such as the S13, AE86 and RX-7's of the day. An RWD Skyline (such as a GTS-t) could probably be set up to make a reasonably good drift car, but it would be much easier to work with the S13 - especially here in North America.
