  • Stock PSI on RB20

Just wondering what the stock PSI should be on an Rb20det?

I installed a boost gauge this weekend and it seems to hit around 5psi around 2500rpm and then jumps to 10-11 psi around 5k rpm.

The reason I ask is that I don't want to push it past 13lbs or so and wondering if this would be stock readings I am getting (assumeing my gauge is accurate of course lol). Could there be a problem with my wastegate or a vac line?

    thanks
    Rob

i belive on the r32's there is a soliniod somewhere that keeps bost low until a certian rpm.

      sounds about right tho.

I honestly wouldn't run more than 12 on the stock turbo...it's honestly not worth the extra psi or 2 for your peice of mind.

stock boost on the cefiro was 9psi at the turbo, 7 at the mani.

yeah I dont think ill be pushing it any farther without an upgrade. I agree that the 2psi or so is not worth I just thought I read somewhere that stock was like 7psi max.

        thanks for the replies

stock psi on an rb20 is 7. max is well... dependant on how long you want your turbo to last. From all of my turbo reading over the past little while, it seems like a fairly universal assumption that going over 1bar is going to make a ceramic turbo blow up.

i'm going to be running my stock turbo at 5psi for puttering and 13 for anything that requires some balls.

Not like this setup is going to be in the car for long anyways 8)

I wouldnt go any higher than 1bar on the stock ceramic turbo. Your just asking for trouble if you do. Ceramic trubos are good for one thing....stock cars.

I wouldn't go any higher then 0.9 bar on the stock turbo, pretty sure 1 bar will mean death pretty fast to that ceramic turbo

that would mean approx 12.5 pounds of boost ?

                    1bar=14.503861 psi
                    so .9bar=13.0534749psi

noice... so compared to stock @ 7 psi, 13 is a good step...

Does it keeop boost all the way to the rev limiter ?

Sorry to ask so many questions, i'm brand new here and getting a gts-t... I've read and searched for whole nights...without sleeping... but I still want to know more !

take a look at the dyno sheets and base your conclusion from there http://forums.gtrcanada.com/viewtopic.php?t=4428

(it does drop off a bit, but that's why we have gears to shift through and stay in the powerband  )

awesome numbers with awesome linear powerbands... i'm impressed.

                          What's your shift point ?

I'm going to look into air/fuel ratios now...

Well it's good to see people really using the search function instead of asking "lazy" question. Way to go man!

Don't be surprised if it takes a while to really understand everything as I've been at this for a couple of years now and I still don't know everything .

Anyway, if you need any help with things after doing your research post up and we'll be glad to help.

                            Take care.

                            Cheers 8)
