  • Top Mount Twin Turbo Setup

Does anybody have any ideas on how to achieve this? I have been looking, but have not found any top mount manifold out there. I hope I have just been looking in the wrong places. Am I able to take regular one and well, turn them upwards?

    Any help would be appreciated,
    Kirk

HKS has kits, Greddy has kits, or get one custom made.

I was gonna say HKS as well. I know JPS Trading had a used HKS top mount kit not that long ago. For those in the know, what is the advantage to a top mount setup?

more HP due to position is what i figure

EDIT: Allows for larger turbo which makes more HP

makes swapping turbos a hell of a lot easier too. Plus the bling factor.

How does the position help with the Hp?

HAha as far as i know it just allows you to run larger turbos, there is limited space with a low mount setup.

Im running low mounts and i should be well in to the 600HP (fly)

Is it really a simple matter of gravity? Only thing I can see is being away from the engine more, the turbos wouldn't get so hot and would disapate heat more quickly, but I am just speculating. Any Gurus care to add their two cents?

I doubt gravity has anything to do with it, and with regards to cooling, the manifolds and turbines get massively hot, and really you want them hot, the hotter the gas the faster it will flow, if people wanted cool turbos, everyone who makes header wrap and turbo blankets would be out of biz pretty quick (thats one of the best ways to keep engine bay heat down btw, but there are other negative to wrapping your manifolds too).

The only logical reason to go top over low mounts, is the size of the turbo, and if you want people to see your twins when you open your hood.

Its got nothing to do with efficiency. If you are thinking about the charged air will get warmer, your better off investing in a better intercooler setup.

                      Well thats what i think.

heat has a direct effect on spool
the more you have the larger the volume of gas which goes back the the first line

you wantthe intake side cold, the hot side hot(inside)

^ So wrap on exhaust parts serves two purposes. Keep exhaust gas hotter and keep heat out of the engine bay? I have seen heat shield made for turbos. Is this idea to keep the compressor air cool?

What is your take on the top mounts, mcfly? The pros and cons?

impartial on the subject as i do not enjoy twin setups regardless of the results they may produce.

You are better off ceramic coating the parts over wrapping, wrapping traps moisture and leads to premature failure of the pieces that bear weight.
the shields you speak of do just that, try and keep the heat away from the compressor and engine bay. Same idea as the cold air intake boxes.

Gotta be honest here. My hmmm...pretty much only reason to top mount the turbos is for the appearance. I will only be putting GT2860R-5's in there which fit in the stock location, but hidden. I just figure if I am throwing in new turbos, let me take car of the hard to reach bits now.

As for ceramic coating, I was looking at some companies to coat my parts before they go in. I had some ceramic Kooks long tubes in my last car and loved how they held up to the tortures of time.
