so if you have the window down on a warm summer day and happen to have your arm resiting on the door, you will be electrocuted?

No, it doesn't electrocute you... the author of the article was joking.

Also about the legal issue, phoned SGI here in Sask and they said you can leave the colour option on your registration blank.

Why, then, do they tell you to report color changes made to vehicles immediately? This is really odd, the whole thing doesn't sound right. I'm not doubting the fact that it could be possible, I just dont think Nissan will offer something like this.

We would write: VIBGYOR in the color field. And if someone doesn't know what VIBGYOR stands for, pitiful, lol.

You ever watch Gundam Seed? Their mobile suit gundams are colorless until they turn them on and then they come to life in color. And then go pale after they turn the suit off.

Basically they are just starting what cartoons have already accomplished.

With the flick of a switch, the color of this Nissan will change to match your mood or your outfit. The designers and engineers have worked out a way to rearrange the molecules in the paint so that when an electric current passes through them, the eyes perceive a different color. The colors can be controlled by the drivers. Since it requires electricity, the default color is white.

They have developed a “paramagnetic” paint coating, which is a unique polymer layer that features iron oxide particles that are applied to the vehicle’s body. When an electric current is applied to the polymer layer, the human eye then interprets the crystals in the polymer as different colors. Depending on the level of current and the spacing of the crystals, a wide range of colors can be selected by the driver. A steady current is needed to maintain the color effect, thus the paramagnetic paint doesn’t work when the vehicle is turned off and hence the vehicle switches back to a default white color.

This can't be good for legal reasons, also makes your car much easier to steal.

the current of electricity would actually counteract the reaction of rust or oxidation. i would also think that the iron that is contained in the paint would be immune to oxidation because of it being suspended in what ever liquid it would be in.

Also i think the "electrocution" would be negligible, I don't see this needing much current to force the change. You would need a few good volts to feel anything. But again the colour changing layer would probably be protected under some non-conductive paint layer.

The only problem i would see here is the traffic legality of it. The ability to change the description of your car on the fly is something the police probably don't want to have to deal with. BUT if it is invented and released it'd be one hell of an aftermarket paint job! It's something i would LOVE to have on my car.

It starts with Nissan being the kind of company that might be interested in such a technology. Then it becomes Nissan looking into the technology, moving swiftly to Nissan pioneering the technology, and ultimately to Nissan's bogus but juicy claim.

One of the most important elements of blogging hygiene is to drill back through sources to find the original. But "Via" chains can become broken, or even loop, and some folks don't like to do Via links at all. Dead ends can be circumvented with Google or a phone call, but when you're saying nice things — and especially when talking about future technologies, which are all lies anyway — errors get made. if this works through the metal body parts for conducting the charge...do the plastic/fiberglass parts not change?

Wouldn't it be the same idea as positive ground cars? Which had worse body corrosion and blocked radiators problems?
