  • JZ HID install

hey, i recently got my H3 hid kit for the projectors on the GTR, they came with no instructions, the plugs are simple the spades connect into the existing lamps harness; im wondering how the actual xenon bulb is installed in the projector?

Post a picture of the bulb and I'll be able to tell if it's an H3C or a H4

Here is a pic of the HID lamps I have. The box is marked H3, ed said that both H3 and H3C are the same..?

H3 and H3C are the same design. However H3C has an extra wire. There should be 1 power wire and 1 ground wire for the H3C while the H3 has 1 power wire and uses the base of the light bulb as a ground.

So are you having problems getting the bulb in?

Here's a good picture. I made my own H3C bulbs out of H3 bulbs.

Anyway, if your having problems installing the bulb itself it's probably because the bulb is too big/long. Or if you look at the base of the bulb (second picture) you'll notice that square cut out piece. There is a round cut out on the other side and these have to match up with the headlamp housing when your installing the bulbs.

oh gotcha, yeah i took the stock bulb out by squeezing that clip and popping it out, then i went to put the HID in and couldnt really see what was going on, so i removed the headlight and took the two screws out from the back to take the bracket out, still not sure. I took the highbeam out and fit the HID in and then the factory spring clip thing holds it in just like the factory bulb...any imput on this. probbly some retardation on my side here. haha

also on both sides do the spades just connect into the factory harness or does one side go somewhere else?

yeah it works like that on the highbeam side but not on the projector side. this is on a 92 GTR if there is any difference between the years.

Spades are installed into the factory harness.

OH NO! I think 92 is after they change the lamps from H3C to H1 bulbs. I think you need H1 bubls not H3C's

Actually I think the driving light (non projector part of your headlamp) is a H3. LoL, I just looked at this diagram I made as a reference a while back and it's showing:

                        Parking light: 194 bulb
Projector: H3C bulb (before 08/20/91) or H1 bulb (after 08/20/91)
                        Driving light: H3 bulb

Try it out, see if it works!

well the HIDs i got will work in the high beam but that kinda sucks.. do you think a prior 92 skyline projector would fit into my headlight assembly? are the harness's the same also? I only need + and - for the HID's right ??

I tried installing H3C HIDs and they sucked. they don't fit, and you need to do a lot of custom work to make them work.

if you have H1's then they work fine... but the ones you posted are not H1's, they are H3C.
