  • GTRs and RWD

Im sure this has been touched on before...but i am at a decisive point with my car...and i need some help from the GTRC community...

For the longest time ive been into drifting...the GTS T i bought originally was meant to be a drift car this summer...and since its gone now...well...cant be...

Ive been contemplating converting the GTR to RWD for a while now...but i just dont know if its the smartest thing to do...

I figure...if i am serious about drifting my GTR...i might as well just do the tranny swap since the weight reduction would be beneficial...

Now on the other hand...i love autocross as well and ive been wanting to take part in this as well...so should i keep the AWD...???

Which event do you think the GTR would be more suited for deep down...even though i figure 99% will say auto cross...maybe someone has another opinion...

Btw i am not looing for answers like...just pull the fuse...its either RB25 tranny...or keep the AWD...but give a reason...i want peoples opinions...and maybe experiences as well...

    Thanks

You can still do auto x with RWD, but you can't drift with AWD.
Looking for cheap parts? supguyex (Jon) is parting out his car. Good prices, good guy.

      you don't need to choose.

just buy a half decent atessa controller. The extra weight is worth the gain in traction. And the extra 75 /100 pounds is not a huge deal sideways.

I am really uneducated on this topic but cant you make a switch or something where you can choose awd or rwd. I thought one of the cars in the marketplace had it. Please correct me if i am wrong

yah a torque splitter is what its called...

its not that at all though...

its like what bigblue said...400 pounds is a considerable amount of weight...and is enough to make me think of ditching it...

BUT...i wanted to see what people think...the GTR was meant to be AWD...should it be left that way or not...

i know one of the sickest GTRs in canada...currently for sale in BC...the white one veilside widebody....is RWD...

I say just get a good attesa control and live with the extra weight.

If It's a dedicated drift car no question but if you plan to track, autox, and drive it on the street. I don't see it as entirely worth it.

If it makes you feel any better, the SiGNAL Auto R34 GTR has been converted to RWD for the sole purpose of drifting. Bye bye 4wd .

                    Unless it's AWD, it's not a GTR.

What do you think made Godzilla so great in racing? The AWD system and of course the powerplant. Get a Gts-t and swap in an RB26 if you really want it.

If you're THAT into drifiting IMO, you shouldn't have bought a GTR.

                      how?

                      gtr box, say 250.
                      rb25 box around 160

front prop maybe 10 lbs, axles 30, diff 20.

i cant see a savings of more then 100.

If you are that serious about drifting i would buy a car which would make a better drifter. No sense hacking up a GTR to end up at the same result.

On the other hand, why not, it's your car. A lot of sports cars are RWD so it can't be that bad . On the other hand the GTR is designed specifically to be AWD.

I would just get a torque controller or a remote switch to disable the AWD fuse. Enjoy a bit both worlds.

i would decide on drift or autocross, and either keep the gt-r for the latter or get a gts-t and spend the extra from the gt-r on some good drift parts. GTS-T's are a fair bit lighter so it doesn't take much for them to drift. I think a rwd gt-r street car would be pretty badass, like a muscle car skyline.

dude its ur car... u do with it as u want. its not like the GTR is an extreamly rare car that needs to be locked in a garage for collectors.

                              ur car.... ur choice..... simple.
