Sorry to say this is how it could potentially go: You would save up, drop your 4K and pick up a GTS-t. It would break in a week. Not because there is a problem with the car but because thats how it goes. It would cost you say 1k to fix. U'd spend 2-3 months to save up, and be soo happy as you drove out of the repair shop. 2 weeks later something for $500 would go. It seems these cars like to pick on people that can't afford the repairs. Too many people pick them up and save every cent to fix them while they sit in the garage...

Why does everyone say "dont get a skyline for your first car, its to much power or your going to kill yourself"

A stock GTS is not fast, and a stock GTR isn't all that quick. Its the driver making decisions that really matters. If your smart behind the wheel and don't try drifting every corner, revving your engine, dumping the clutch, or going around a tight corner way to fast you should be fine.

However I agree... they are pricey to maintain.

220 hp on a stock gts is fast if you compare it to a 1.5 4 banger civic. No one is saying a stock GTR can kill an enzo but its still a quick car compared to the other 8-10 k cars out there.

its soo true. the best way to aviod that is to buy one thats upwards in the 9K+ range that has been babied. but none seems to be willing to do that and those that are, know what they're doing

If he wants a skyline you guys should support him getting one. Sixteen or not, it makes no difference.

His dads corolla likely has more hp then the average gtst driving around anyways.

Lawlhi, buy a gtst, or even a gtr if you can afford it and enjoy your car. Just don't drive like a douche.

My opinion your way to young for a gtr or skyline in this case. Get driving experience first unless you wanna end up in a wall with your balls in your mouth.

honestly it doesnt make a lick of difference...

if you are a stupid punk kid you can crash and kill yourself in a 100hp civic, but in a 200hp car even faster... GTR, lambo, civic, hummer, doesnt make any difference if you're an idiot you shouldnt even drive...

with that said, if you are a person who is respectful of the road and understands that at any given time you can DIE, you will do just fine... having a healthy fear of the road has kept me alive...

as for your first car id keep away from anything that is to tuner friendly... if you can bolt on junk to it you will, and then you wont be able to afford your skyline when your ready for it... so since most vehicles are now tuenr friendly id keep it as stock as possible...

for a first car think something RWD, manual transmision, cheap to run, cheap to fix, and easy to work on...

i can think of a number of vehicles that fit that...

mustangs
Camaro's
240sx
GTiR (its AWD and can be a quick lil car and is farily easy to work on and get parts for)
small pick up trucks like
mazda b2200's
ford rangers
toyota tacoma* they hold there value but are also a lil pricey to get

pick up trucks are good to have... while they arent as cool as the cars mentioned... you can keep the truck alot longer and get very good use out of it... some of the uses would be to keep it for when you get the skyline you can truck home parts, have it for a winter vehicle, use it to move(not gonna live at home forever), camping etc etc etc... you also dont end up being a taxi for all your friends who want a ride, since there is only room for 3 if you squish

IMO, you aren't ready to have a skyline, cause you don't know them... you reminds me of a someone I met when I had my R32.. I hate when someone buy cars they don't know about. Buy a car you like and know about, not a car someone told you it was cool and powerfull.

This forum is too funny Its just a car guys as long as he didnt just watch a F&F trailor or jump on the bandwagon because his friends tell him how cool the cars are then by all means go for it, who cares what other people think?

This is the only car forum where I have seen people talk this way about a car all I do is shake my head...so many fanboys

You should follow what your heart desires..

If you want a skyline weather its a gts-t or not, r32 or r33. You should be aware of its power first, then the cost of maintenance.

When I first got my skyline it was a 1989 GTS (yes NA) just so I can get use to its handling and power. After two years of owning it, I have decided to opt for a GTS-T Type M. Yes it is more fun than a GTS, but you have to be responsible for its power. This car alone can get you in to trouble if your not careful.

After owning this GTS-T for quite some time now, I realized its time to move on. Alot of members here disagree but to me my R33 GTS-T seems more reasonable for me at the moment. Yes it may perform like a whale or a pig on the streets but I really like how it looks.

One piece of advice, do not settle for a cheap GTS-T nor a too good to be true GTR's. You do get what you paid for this cars.

Someday, I want to move on to V Spec II R34 GTR. I sure hope by then I will be ready to do so. (Both financially and emotionally)

Personaly I think anyone under the age of 18 should be restricted to a K car. my 2 cents.
I crashed my first sports car lol.

I get into the GTR back when i had PS1 playing GT2....

cousin showed me it....THIS IS MY DREAM car he would say....obviously since hes like a brother to me i decided to go ahead and dream...

So i saved my sheckles for 10 years...yes 10 years....me and my car are the same age....i got 1 year on it actually hahaha...

anyways so 10 years and i saved enough for a GTS T plus some mods...so i bought a GTS T through Adam at feast through C-Unit....was an awesome car...but my adolescent phase and stupid GO FAST GO FAST attitude was obvious when i had the car....

hoping to do stupid sutff and ridiculous builds with the car yadda yadda yadda...

anyways...at our age (i just turned 18) the performance is hard to ignore....your always feeling like giving her some gas..

anyways...i had had my license for about 6 months when i bought my GTS....and my lack of experience lead me to wirte it off....yup smashy smashy...i lost my baby...

and then doing a even more stupid thing...but something ill never regret...i went out and bought my GTR....its a hella lot more money...the engine is a whole different monster

thing is amazing...but i learned alot from my first car...

i would say go for it...but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE respect it....

if you dont you'll learn fast....first day i had my GTS T i drifted into a mail box and dented my rear quarter panel....cause i didnt respect it....

but dont go GTR...its just expensive...its alot of upkeep....ALOT

just bc you crash your car doesnt mean we all will... i got my skyline 2 months after i turned 18 and i have never even come close to being in an accident... this car is actually more safe than my old cavalier just bc of its raw power. I take it way easier in this car than i have other cars, i used to swerve in and out of trafic and be a complete dumbass till i got my skyline and realized they arent cheap and they are a heat magnet for cops. If anything i think you are less likely to get in an accident with a fancy/unique/powerful sports car than a civic or cavalier or any common car like that. my 2cents on this. I'd say if he wants to own a skyline he should. If he is not ready for it he will realize that quickly when he cant afford to have it on the streets.
