At a place like a lube shop, don't show up right before they close.
The majority (if not all of them) make commission and when you show up that late they don't have time to make any which is why you get bad service.
If it were a non fast serve type shop, they'd just tell you that they don't have time to get you in since they close in 10mins, but the majority of those places cannot turn people away until its the exact closing time so they end up staying late which usually pisses people off aswell if they're not getting paid for it. (sometimes pisses people off anyways)

Regardless all shops should be carrying the proper filter for your car, but since it is not in the books they carry, they cannot put it on because they can't afford a claim against the shop.
Which going by that, they can also refuse service, simply because they do not have the documentation of the car to do a proper service.

This is a liability issue, they don't want to have to replace an engine simply because they're a nice person and do an oil change for someone.
If the shop is not a corporate chain, but a franchise, it is in the owners power to disallow whatever he/she wants (within reason). Whether or not that ends up a profit or not is the deciding factor for the owner. Usually vehicles that they do not have documentation on are not serviced for this reason.

If a shop is too scared to change your oil cause your steering wheel is on the wrong side.. I would def be questioning their mechanical knowledge and ability to work on any car

Seems like you had bad luck today. But to be honest, this Lube World refuse the oil change cause it didn't want a liability should they put the wrong oil filter and something goes wrong, then a shop would have to spend the time and money to correct this problem. I can say, if a shop is not familiar with a particular vehicle, they won't touch it. Not to mention, small shops need maintenance information on the vehicles, if they don't have it, then they will not know what specific parts are needed for the job. But in this case, you were supplying your own filter and you been there for a long time, they should at least service you.

Working in a small shop myself, I can tell you there is no memo or fax sent out not to touch rhd cars. We serviced a lot of rhd cars and never had issues. But there are some things we wont touch if we dont have specs for it, such as alignment, we just make recomendations to a shop that does specialize in it and if there is anything to do with r32's, I'm the first guy they ask for info. It's just too bad, in my 1 year there, only 2 r32's showed up and both were in pretty bad shape....

BTW, Crank 2 was entertaining, not a good movie but, had its funny moments.

i was told to come in around 6-7, (i think its been a while) basically an hour before closing since there is hardly any traffic in and out of the place at that time. that seemed to work, every one there was cool. . (maybe ask gram(sp) if he can do it, i believe he is a manager there. drives a diesel jetta. he was cool with my buddy doing it before.)

I cant believe you guys have these problems because on RHD. Thats just ridiculous.
As far as a shop not wanting to service your car because it doesn't have the specs i can understand. First let me say the its the same as a 300zx turbo maybe non turbo is the same but never looked. so they should def have the filter. Im sure everyone on here has the service manual downloaded in the pdf format. Just put it on a disc where your car is serviced and give it to them.

The gist of my incident was that the technician lied about this memo, had a bad attitude and told me they weren't going to service my car. Lube World is corporate hence why the manager at Head Office dealt with this matter swiftly. There was no notice about not servicing RHD. They said they take cars who provide their own filters too and that's what I've been doing for awhile now with no issue.

Now, that becomes different since VG30's were made for the NA market for the 300zx/maxima. But when you have an R32 skyline with a RB series motor that is not listed on a service book or mitchell online and you have no idea on the engine or the car itself, you wouldn't want to start second guessing on parts without the risk of a comeback from the customer. This has nothing to do with being RHD or LHD, it's not having the information required to do the job.

Right now, there is a bill, C-273 that slated to be voted on May 13. If pass, this bill will give independent automotive shops access on repair and diagnostic information from the automakers. You be surprise that even some vehicle specs on usdm cars are restricted to franchise dealerships.

im not surprized at all that stealerships have been with holding such information...

when a sensor went on my daily driver i went and looked up how to fix it, then bought the sensor from the dealership... while there they asked me how i knew what to buy and if i knew how to install it...

i said " i went online to diagnose my problem found out what the code was, then looked up how to fix the problem... took me all of 30mins, and the repair shoudl take about 1.5 hours"

they said " you just took money out of a mechanics mouth and made short work of 2 yrs worth of schooling " i said in response to that " the sensor is a mere 85$ the wages would have cost more than the part is worth, maybe if it wasnt so expensive to have your car worked on more people would come here "

i took my part and left...

this oil change thing is stupid... the guy working there should get fired or be required to work in the pit and just drain the oil, he shoudlnt be allowed to talk to customers any more

                          LHDism

is it a left coast thing?
in Ontario, people are generally just thrilled to see a Skyline.
but Lube World?; that sounds like one of them peeler clubs out by the airport.

maybe the guy hates changing the oil filter on skylines as it not easy like a pt criuser or sometime etc. So he came up with some dum exuse, then got in doodoo for saying such stupid thing he probably says some other exuse for other hard to do cars with filters in tight spaces
