  • Winter Driving for the Skyline

    Hey guys,

I've been looking around for a skyline for sometime now and have maybe found the one I want. However, I do live in Northern Alberta so its like winter for 7 months of the year. I was wondering if you guys park your skylines for the winter or if you do drive them. If you do drive them what sort of precautions do you take?

Lots of people drive them, they're no different than any other AWD/RWD car in the winter time.

Make sure it's in great mechanical shape so it doesn't strand you, I'd put good winter tires on it, keep a first aid kit and a blanket and other stuff in there just in case, and have at her.

    I personally wouldn't winter drive a GTR, but I'd love to have a GTS-4 for a DD

Mine's a DD as well (altho i dont drive it much since i walk to work). I had no problems this winter.

      1. Winter tires (nokian hakkapellita FTW).
      2. Couple pails of sand in the back.
      3. Rust-proofed/undercoated.

With decent winter tires and common sense, you'll be in better shape than most of the idiots out there rolling on all seasons. A GTS-4 would be better than a GTS-t in the winter too. As for the GTR... hey its your money, do whatever you want with it.

Someone will likely come in here saying that Skyline's should never see winter, every one of these threads attracts one. What it all comes down to, is they drive GTRs and have more money than the people in this discussion. I'd love to own a GTR and have another winter car, but my situation doesnt allow it.

Get good tires, keep distance and you are good.
As people said - there is no difference between other AWD/RWD car. Be sure you dont push it too much, so you can yourself safe

i winter drove my GTS. i put on a set of blizzaks, and had 3 sandbags in teh back. just be familiar with the car and how it handles. that being said if its a stockish DD go for it. if you have a nicer looking car with a body kit etc... might want to find an old beater for the winter.
my current GTSt wont be seeing winter duty.
Just one step on my way to Eleventy Billion horsepower.

i never winter drove my skylines, but i know for a fact they hold up pretty good. Here in quebec we get like 50 feet of snow plus. So no worries you should be fine

I drove mine for a good portion of the winter, and it wasn't too bad. Just keep a level head and a light foot, and you should be fine. Be prepared for some serious paint and exterior cleanup in the spring, though (especially if it's lowered).

Being a fellow albertain and having lived and worked out of fort mac , I would not even consider a skyline up there in the winter haha , madness .

i drove both mine for a portion of time in fort mac.. you would see my car with BC plates rollin around for a while.... until i got a work truck and drove it home. they drive great in the snowy conditions as long as you have good tires
