Im considering doing a respray on my car over the winter but id like to hear some opinions on colours. Like most of us im sure on here i have a black gts, i do like the colour but i want it to stand out a bit. Im leaning towards doing a hint of redish in the factory black colour. But whats troubling me is i dont wanna have to paint the door jams and under the hood so i dont want something that stands out to much. Does anyone have pics of a car with different coloured door jams? is it ugly? or could i get away with a decent colour change. I just want people to know the colour was changed when they see it. Or should i just stick to the black?

I personally, would not change the color unless I could do under the hood, trunk, and door jams. But I'm just picky. You could just do the door jams at the same time... how often do you sit around with the hood or trunk up? It's getting in and out of your car where people will notice it most.
Otherwise if you stick to something similar I don't think it would be half bad, and it's black. It's a totally different story (I feel) if you go from something like blue to red, or vice versa... black doesn't stand out as much. If you do a dark blue, or dark red, or whatever it might actually look alright... maybe incorporate the black into a two tone color schemeDISCLAIMER: If any of the above comments in this post hurt your feelings you are likely taking me too seriously; I'm probably just busting your balls. If you're unsure, feel free to PM me and we can discuss the matter privately, as to not pull the thread OT.

My buddy had a midnight purple car, left the door jams etc black and it looked fine. That being said I'm a perfectionist, and when I'm painting my car this winter I'm making sure everything gets hit. Just looks finished and properly done.Team Limit - "Wide Fuckin' Open"

I hear where you guys are coming from it would defiantly be a dark colour so the black wont stand out much, under the hood being a different colour doesnt bother me much but the door jams could be what gets to me, might have to just shoot them quick to even with a spray bomb if nothing else.
If i do keep it black which may be what i do im leaning towards a black like this...
nice and deep with no sparkle like the stock colour

my soarer was painting black with a dark red pearl:
However, I don't think you should paint a crazy colour if your car is really stock looking. It would just look rice out. just my 2 cent.Biggest selection of Skyline CarbonFiber & FRP Aero in Canada. PM me.

i always did like the colour of your car C-unit, i think i could pull off a decent sparkle.
Im starting to like the idea of a dark dark black with little bit to sparkle, or else a colour similar to c-units without as much metallic, but its always hard picking dark colours from the little fan books as you dont get an idea of the tint to it.Jesse

I suggest, engine bay-wise, if you were to do a drastic change in paint color.. you just mask off parts of your engine and use a spray can and paint your engine bay black...
My previous car (don't laugh) was a Honda CRX, it used to be green and then was re-painted a color I like to call Manly Mauve because I was somewhat embarassed of the color (basically pink) ... the engine bay was still green... so I got a spray can and painted the engine bay flat black..
Photo:
I had a lot of compliments on how my engine bay was flat black... plus, flat black I think is color that reduces heat (hence why our intercoolers are painted flat black stock)..
Also, my Skyline is pearl white, but again, my engine bay is flat black...
Old photo, my engine bay is flat black but my valve covers/cam covers/coil cover is pearl white to match my exterior...
So thats what I suggest doing... probably could even get away with spraing your door jams and inside your trunk flat black.. but I would at least paint your door jams, but do your engine back and trunk flat black... ?1991 Nissan Skyline GTR for sale - $10,000 obo.

From what I understand white colour reflects heat. Black, dark grey (darker colours) attracts heat. That's why most buy white cars in hot climates. They removed the black paint on I think was R34GTR stock intercooler.
I saw pearl white on a lady's S14 and it looked amazing, as it made the paint pop. One of my favouite colours for a Nissan.
Another colour that suits the R32 shape in real life is a lightish blue (BJ0 colour code). I saw it on R32 GTS-T and thought it looked amazing. Very rare colour.

I would avoid painting an engine bay dark colours if you could.
Especially one with not too much room.
Reason is, if your engine bay is white... it's way easier to see if you are leaking anything. It's also easier to trace leaks on in a white engine bay, plus lighting is a lot better since your engine bay won't eat the light.
Just a thought.Race. Win. Live.

yeah i agree with the engine bay comment, but ive never been a fan of anything but a black engine bay due to the reason of a dirty look if it isnt cleaned all the time, especially on a daily driver, i do see what your saying though and it makes sense, i think everyone has talked my into remaining with the same colour for the sake of my door jams, and i know i'lll be able to find a black i really like, besides you cant beat a nice deep shiny black.
keep the comments coming though, id love some more feed backJesse

In dark workshop black engine bay looks good. But put it into sunlight or under high wattage lights and you'll see the dirt.
Light Grey or white is used on some racecar engine bays like N1 GTR racecars.RESPONSE MONSTER
