  • Worst Day Ever

So today I was lapping at race city. My car essentially blew up. Huge fireball, oil everywhere etc... My question is what parts of my car are destroyed?
Engine is seized 100%, and there is probably a hole in my block somewhere, haven't had it up to look at it yet. Will need a new block for sure, wondering mainly if turbos survived?

Jeez! That makes my blowing #6 piston so bad that I have zero compression and belch oil smoke seem like I got off easy!
    Oil pump failure??

If anyone knows how bad your damage is, it's the guy who's taking it all apart. I'd say the engine and turbos (if they swallowed any piston chunks or contaminated oil) are scrap. Have fun with the rebuild. I'm $40k in so far without needed a new engine, then again, I went nuts.

if you're good... yes. 3. but that would be a very stockish replacement.

my vote... find a used shortblock with good leakdown and compression results. Add conrod bolts, ARP head studs, metal HG, cams, cam gears and tune it up.

easiest way to get some decent/reliable power.

You don't think at least forged pistons?

Braden (or maybe Ben?) here in Calgary has a built engine for sale, if it's not already sold...might be worth checking it out rather than building your own.

                  Sucks to hear man

Based on everything I've read, I'd assume the turbos are dead....as if you were on the track, you were pushing them pretty hard, so they would be quite hot, and then suddenly no more oil flowing by them carrying that heat away. Could be that the oil line just needs to be cleaned out (why we get turbo timers...oil turns to sludge when it sits on a hot spot and stops flowing), but I don't have any experience with this, just what I've read.

On a side note, might PM you about who you were going through to do laps at race city (or was it just an open track night or something?), it's something I'm interested in doing once I get my new suspension installed.

Took a look at the damage in the daylight... looks pretty bad. Still haven't wiped the tears away to take it in (not gonna deal with it myself).

From what I gather here and some PM's I received a new block is in order. I am going to keep my car because it held up in the fire quite well, and probably only needs a respray.

So now for a few questions...

Has anyone used the R33 turbos and if so how are they? I have an opportunity to purchase them off a friend for a very good deal, and because I have decided to get my baby running again, cheap turbos can save me some coin

Should I get a block used or new?

Does anyone have connections to get an R34 Nur Block?

                    Single Turbo for track car?

Also the lapping was invite only, PM me if you want details on whom I go through

Here's Braden's thread for the engine he is selling:
Hi guys, just bought a gtst and the water pump leaking like crazy, Im scared to drive the car currently as the leak is major, I would like to know if it's easy to replace it? Has anyone done a DIY on this? Or any guru can help me with step by step guide in how and what to do in order for me to replace it? I am also looking for

There was some one selling RB30 blocks in Alberta not to long ago, if I had to do a full rebuild, I would go for the RB30 and hit up Spool for some internals
