so you pay 1400 for registration and then you pay how much more for insurance...

registration and insurance are two totally different things...

I don't know if that's the case there... I think registration and insurance might be the same thing back East. I dunno. Could be totally wrong.

its 1400 for a sport bike (like 550 for sport touring) and that doesnt cover insurance. I was thinking of getting my moto lisence this winter, but prices are going crazy for lisencing and will probably continue to go up.

Hopefully they dont start raising the lisence costs on RHD's.

1400$ for regi, 664$ for 1 way insurance (public liability)..

so 2000$ to ride a bike? + tires + maintenance lol.. + the 5000 in parts i dropped into it for track days.. Hobby's a hobby..

Now as far as the car is concerned, they may very well do that as well.. That's one way to kill an industry, that's for sure.

Edit, sorry i wasn't clear in my first post, i didnt realize braden said 'insurance or regi?'.. but yea.. 2000-2500 overall for both.

ya thats what i was thinking, i wouldnt put it past them to charge RHD more than regular... those wankers.

but no, in QC.. it works like this:

                - registration/license plate fee = $280/year (for a car.. motorcycles are more)
                - drivers license fee = $160/2 (years or something like that)
-automobile insurance = $140/month (for me: 2 way full coverage)

it adds up to a lot of money to drive a car... how ever, its still better than ontario lol.. they have rediculous insurance rates.

I have insurance with TD meloche monnex, and its cheap. My agent was very easy with me, went over everything, gave me every option (0 deductible, free rental if accident, full value if stolen, etc...). I was also given the story that I was a rare case and they never insurance skylines but since I was an existing customer they gave me insurance. I have two cars under my account so my insurance is very little, its circa 1200$ for both cars.

Anyways back to the topic, I just wanted to say your allowed to have vehicles from out-of-province in Quebec, but you 'CANNOT' re-register them as a Quebec vehicle. If you buy a RHD from Ontario and bring it to Quebec you can't register it. Its not even that you can register them its that you can't do a provincal inspection (therefore you can't register), but theres ways of getting around it. If you look a few JDM shops have been newly registering RHD cars since the ban in April 29,2009.

Forgive my ignorance, I don't know a thing about registering a car in Quebec, but is this provincial inspection just a safety check that any licensed mechanic can do like here in Ontario?

If so, can't you get fake inspections like we can here? $100-150 will get you a no-look safety from a number of sketchy shops in Ontario... then emissions test and you can plate your car. Sure, it isn't good but it works.

                              - Insurance: $140/mohth (full coverage w/options)

Hmm I find it interesting how the other provinces work with insurnace and such..

                                BC
-Reg: One time fee of $20 (The car can change hands many times, the fee never has to be paid again)
-Plate: $18 One time unless you want a different plate for another $18 (Lost the old one)
                                -Drivers Lic: $75/5 years
-Insurance: Everyone is different i get 43% discount for safe driving so i pay $800 a year i dont like monthly payments.

and it seems that ICBC is a winning option once again.. There monopoly saves me money.
