OK planning on parking outside in the cold. Cover car, too cold for rodents, I was planning on starting every couple of weeks on the near freezing days? Will this be a bad idea? Overinflating tires is hard when parking in -20, -30, -40, there gonna shrink anyways... damn it lol. I'm getting a rad flush next week. If I let it freeze all winter with no battery in will I be OK or should I take it for a ride on the warmish days for 30 mins every 2-3 weeks?

Leave it alone. Its harder on the engine starting in -40 then not at all. Seriously leave your tires alone... over inflating and worrying about flat spots DOESNT apply to new technology radial tires... only old bias plys had this issue.

re: flatspotting you may have a point about going overboard.

But as far as plugging the exhaust, it's not going too far at all-- especially depending on where you store your car. Rodents and other creatures would love to make your exhaust their new home.

PLUS not to mention quite a few cars have straight through mufflers and no cats...

Just a little steel wool (50 cents) in the tailpipe will provide an extra measure of caution with very little effort.

Was detailing my car today and reminded me of this thread.

What do you guys think of cleaning/waxing/polishing her up for the winter?

Better to not let any mysterious stains eat away at your paint for 4-5 months.

ok i bought my project skyline about a week to a week and a half ago and it had iron wool in the exhaust. it didnt seem normal i just didnt worry about it because i had never dealt or used the exhaust company so i thought it was part of the exhaust system for some weird sound quality.

I would just like to clarify this because i dont want to rip it out if it is part of the exhaust but i also dont want to start my car up any more if i have a wad of iron wool in there.

Move to Vancouver Island and drive your Skylines all year round.

It is easy, just take my seminar. If you too stupid not to take my seminar, you deserve to have Skyline pauked foe winter.....my impression of Tom Vue.

I can also do William Shatner......Theres something on the wing,...some...thing.

First off does anyone know of an outdoor car cover that fits the GTR well?

The odds of getting flat spots are not that great on new tires, that doesn't mean you should ignore the possibility then. They can still develop, they won't be nearly as bad as they were back in the day, but that doesn't mean you should ignore it. Overinflating is a good idea, but make sure you check it a few times and top them up cause they will leak faster the colder it gets. You can also get nitrogen in your tires, good for a street only car, doesn't leak or expand/shrink as much, lighter weight. The only downside is for track use most people play with the pressure, so it's a waste of money to get it only to take some out at the track and put air back in at the track. If you have the room roll the car every month a few inches, just to get it off that spot. Only roll it one direction, if you roll it forward and back you'll still be sitting on the same spot of tire. As for jackstands, I've heard it's hard on the unlaoded suspension so it's not a very good idea. If you run R comps you need to keep those in a heated place so take them off and keep them inside. Never store tires near a furnace, so the basement isn't the best place. If you're single like me youc an keep tires in the living room, or even your turbo rebuild in the kitchen, but don't let the wife/gf tell you to put them near the furnace.

The most important thing is a good qauality fule stabilizer. Your car will run like ship in the spring if you don't use one and you'll freak out thinking a whole bunch of things broke. Also use a fuel antifrezze, the gas companies don't put it in till they need it. I'm not sure when they start, but it's a good idea to spend the few bucks to know it's in there, make sure you run your car after you add this to ensure it's mixed in with the fuel in the lines all the way up to the injectors. You're most worried about freezing in the lines or engine in areas where something will crack. Some people even drain the fuel tank in the spring and use it in a beater. Make sure the tank is full and the cap makes a good seal. If there's air in the tank the fuel will break down quicker.

As for running the car, I recomend that you don't do it. If you build up heat it will build up moisture that will then be trapped. The moisture will also build up in the exahust , especially if you forget to take out the plug in the tail pipe. Even if the cars outdoors you might get something up in there, it's more of avoiding something disgusting than saving you from expensive repairs. Who really wants parts of a dead decaying roddent to shoot out of the exhust? Some people might tell you it's better to start it and let it build up oil pressure to lube everything up then shut it down before it gets a chance to generate any heat. This sounds like a good idea for long term storage, but not sure if you'd need to do it for four month storage.
