most nissan's during the early years use the same oil filter, a 300zx or 240sx oil filter will work fine, I love the K&N for the one reason they have that wonderful nut on the end to make taking them off soo easy
I've never had a problem removing a stock filter. Having a nut on the end should not be on your list of criteria for choosing an oil filter... performance should. In my mind, Nissan would not have spent who knows how many $ on R&D for the RB, SR, and VG engine and not make a good oil filter.
Why someone wants to skimp on a few dollars when your engine is at stake is beyond me. But it's not my car, so go ahead and do what you want.
there is absolutely nothing wrong with k&n filters and you can't even say they are cheap because they definalty run me more than any OEM filter. Besides end of they day as long as your "performance filter" has a "metal core" not a cardboard one like many really cheap filters like fram you'll never have a problem with filter collapse or anything else you expect from a "performance filter"

true, not cheap at all. I just find OEM blue to work well, I am running K&N right now, it's meh. Relocation also makes filter change a breeze so the nut is useless, not that there were too many problems where it mounted to the block.

Actually, Nissan did make a good filter once. It was a 15208-60U00. You can't get it any more...discontinued long ago. Now we're stuck with the 15208-55Y00.
If you want something better than that, there is the PitWorks filter
Not to beat a dead horse, but Nissan filters for the RB/SR/VG are 1980s technology. Not that the OE filters aren't good, but just like the turbos, coils, suspension and engine management, there are far superior products available in 2010.
