Repaired accident damage to some degree, could be quite trivial.

Not quite sure how they track it, but maybe there's mandatory reporting of all bodywork in Japan.

Tiger is in the buisness of selling PARTS and PARTS CARS these cars are never sold with the intent to be driven now you can go in there and pick up a gem if you look REALLY Hard or you can get a beater and get a super deal and build it my black GTR came from tiger jap when i picked it up it made 160-158PSI accross the board and is a oriinal mileage at 124,000km car it is auction grade R and has some visible accident repair but it was minor and the repair was done correctly. Go in there with someone who knows walk out with a deal but ALL of there cars need work regardless

Maybe it is, maybe its not. But I've heard enough of BAD *hearsay* about them to personally stay away.

But like it was said, they do import the odd car here and there that's in good shape, you just have to find it.

Its your money man, if you feel confortable enough to put that kind of money on their tainted name, then go right ahead.

If something happens though (and I hope it doesn't) well you can't say we didn't tell you so.

Why ask the question if you're going to tell everyone they're wrong when they give you their opinion?

The original, somewhat ignored, question was how they managed to import JDM cars and sell them at an apparent loss, and what factors allow it.

The thread got hijacked into a Tiger bashing session, which was really not at all relevant to the original topic!

So far it looks like the answer might be that they leverage economies of scale by loading a bunch of motors & clips, as well as a car or two, into a container to spread the import cost across multiple lucrative product lines. (most of their clips sell for as much as a cheap car, and they, and motors, take a fraction of the room of a complete car...)

Makes sense, and as long as nothing gets mangled, probably a good idea!

I answered your question, they buy junk cars for very cheap; and your $4500 worth of fees was way overstated. And if they crap 2 cars in a container their shipping costs are lower / offset by the other product they stuff in there.

R is given sometimes when a car has upgraded body parts.

Carbon fiber hood, New Front bumper..

R in this car stands for Replaced

                  RA is Repaired Accident

XX means its damaged or doesnt run at all.

Was reading somwheres that tiger pays $50-100 for a motor, some dude claims to have seen invoices when he was there, i think thats true because they have pretty cheap engines and some are burnt out. Now 4/5 of these engines pretty much pay the shipping on the container so the 2 cars are pretty much shipped for free.

all that being said they have JDM in their name so that offsets any facts and makes them cool.

                      end of discussion.

Its funny when some people want something so bad even if 100 ppl say its junk it doesnt matter as long as 1 person says its good.
