    DO NOT TOUCH CHINESE TIRES

stay as far away from them, triangle, nexen, linglong, wanli, nankang, etc.etc

euro tires (michelin, pirelli, dunlop) or jap tires (bridgestone, falken, yokohoma, toyo) are always a safe bet

even korean tire (hankook, kumho) are good

Agree'd, avoid hankook k102's though, i have em and first gear is 100% useless. Second gear too if it's cold out.

i would have to agree with the ripe words of the older "plumwerks". i also rmb when ppl used to live and die by "goodyear, michelins and pirelli". however the bottom line is you get what you pay for. but in time these chinese companies im sure will be the same if not better in quality.

Chairman Mao!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol im actually vacationing in Beijing right now lol and i'm feeling extremely patriotic. also there was a vid.....grandma chan's driving lessons? one of you guys posted it up and at the end the guy also yells chairman Mao

R&D will do wonders!! That's where the expense comes in.. Maybe chinese tires will do the same in the next 5-10 years but only at the downfall of price increase..

Nothing like proven tires.. mmmm RE-01's..

I'm old enough to remember when "Made in Japan" was a joke.

I wonder about JDM parts sometimes. Why are they so expensive? Is it the high build quality and materials used, or is it because a japanese made part means it's made ina first world country where people actually get paid well? Or maybe both?

I have a 700 dollar exotic speed intercooler, it works nicely. Had I bought a $1,500 HKS cooler, would it perform better, or am I paying for the higher wages Japanese workers earn? I mean, an intercooler is an intercooler is an intercooler, minus materials used, I think. You hear about people with 99 dollar ebay specials that don't have any problems, much like you hear about people with exotic speed intercoolers who have no problems, and people who have $2,000 ARC intercoolers who have no problems.

I mean, paying for the name is obvious, but is the quality actually better to warrant an extra five or six hundred bucks on an intercooler?

Sorry my mind is all over the place because I've been drinking coffee ALL DAY :P

ps: chinese tires will be "the bee's knee's" 30 years from now, I bet

well my very very simplified answer to your question is it depends on the part in question. An oil catch can for example IMO could be a $40 ebay piece of crap or a high dollar JDM brand name piece and still function the same. Tires on the other hand you should NEVER go cheap on. Trust me on that, I apprentice in a tire shop.

I think the largest part of the high prices of JDM parts is the R&D that goes into them. That, and the fact that people WILL pay that much for them.

I think the best thing to do is pick and choose where you want to spend your money and where something not so "flashy designer brand" will suffice. Personally, I have always been a fan of homebuilt parts.
