pros and cons with r32 gtst and gtr

ok i did exactly what you want to do... had a black 89 gtst and upgraded to a gtr... i love my gtr and its bull **** when people say that you have to pour a ton of money into them, mine has 156,000km i replaced the clutch in mine 2 days after i bought it, no problems since and i don't drive it nicely... i would highly suggest buying from someone on the site though because the people here seem to do the right things that need to be done to them.

okay thanks alot guys still not sure if i wanna fork out the extra cash for a gtr but im deffinatly thinking about it

i daily drive a gtr its fine....all it needs is maintenance and sure little things here and there break but that part of owning an old car and fix it...its the way u treat ur car...
b4 i bought a gtr i read online that ppl say dont buy coz its expensive to fix and breaks down....LOL not ture...pick the best one that ur gut tells u to get and move on....

You would have to refresh nearly everything, depending on km travelled. Lower km = better. Anything over 100km, you might as well refresh everything, like engine, gearbox, diffheads, auxilaries, brakes, replace fuelpump, replace sensors, rewire or replace looms, etc (gets expensive quickly) if car is going to be thrashed. Basically build a racecar.
Driveshaft's, bushes, diffhead are 3x area's I have encountered when car is thrashed that fail easily and Nismo mentioned on their website to replace driveshaft's / upgrade bushes (normal wear and tear) and car feels like new again. Also CAS sensor failure. Apart from that, Skyline is quite reliable when thrashed, as long as you replace fluids before and after trackdays (treat it like a racecar) and fit oilcoolers to make sure oil temps don't rise too high on racetrack, shouldn't have any problems with parts due to oil failure.Last edited by Skym; 10-10-2010, 06:54 PM.

True, and that's why on old performance cars like these I set aside a budget to do a ton of 'preventative maintenance'. Figure I replace all the stuff that's prone to breaking down prior to driving it hard and potentially doing more damage.

I find the R32 GTS-T more fun due to it's snappy nature (single turbo) when coming onto boost and lack of weight in front of R32 GTS-T makes front feel lighter. GTR feels smooth on transistion to boost (twin turbo), but the 4wd mixed with semislicks, lighter chassis (racetrim) makes it grip and accelerate. R32 GTS-T with RB20DET just lacks the hp, torque of RB26 engine in GTR and both engines don't have much hp at lower rpm's.
If want more hp at lower rpm's, twin turbo Nissan Titan V8 in R32 chassis or R35GTR with twin turbo VR38. Should be good for 1000hp at crank, if drivetrain doesn't fail.
If GTR or GTS is properly maintained, they are reliable. The oilpump drive on front of crank (too short in length) is the weak point on early R32 GTR RB26DETT and on all R32 GTS-T with RB20DET (that I know of).Last edited by Skym; 10-10-2010, 06:09 PM.

if your budget is 10 grand u can pick up a nice GTSt for that or less... or you can buy a GTR thats not gunna be that nice and will need work.
The motors are fine if they arent beat to hell and have been maintained properly.
gtst- cheaper on fuel, lighter car and 100% RWD all the time.
gtr- pig on fuel (mine is anyway) heavier then gtst because of the AWD system.
again if your budget is 10gs... it really comes down to if you want a clean, good condition skyline or not.
because for 9 or 10 grand, a GTR is going to need work, have high km, possibly have rust and wont be a clean GTR.
9 or 10 grand can get you a very nice GTSt, check out the marketplace on here.

hey guys im looking into buying another skyline i want something that is going to have alot of potential and around 10gs i really want a gtr but i have heard from people that they shouldnt be daily driven and that the motors dont last long is that true?? and if possible would u be able to tell me some pros and cons about them both
