  • Extent of damage/worth keeping?

So, a couple days ago I jumped a curb in my gtst (raining for awhile+very bald tires makes turning hard.) and did a bunch of damage underneath.

Now, I'm not mechanically inclined at all but from what I can see it seems like the tie-rod is broken (could be wrong, I'm not even sure that's what it is?) and the bracket and maybe some other stuff.

The right wheel (which took most of the hit) is pushed back towards the rear fender and rubbing against it. Friend said there might be a possibility of frame damage so here is the question:

How much damage would you think I did (I hit the sidewalk curb on an angle, the right side took most of the damage, going about 25-30km) and if the frame is bent is the car even worth keeping? I've put money into it and would hate to lose it but if the car is always going to feel weird or cost 3k+ to repair I'm better off just selling it and moving onto something else imo.

    Ideas/Opinions?

I can't really bring it to a shop to get the damage judged since it's stationary now, I had to get it towed to in front of my apartment building which was already $120, I'm hoping someone will be able to come take a look at it jacked up so I can get an idea of what this will cost, as opposed to spending $120 more just to have a shop tell me it's going to be like $5k to fix, and pay another tow to get it home after.
    Sideways is the best ways.

Can you get some pics of what happened? Would be a little easier to judge it with some visual references.

Yeah I was planning on grabbing some pictures later today when I have time to jack the car up and snap a few.

car is not worth keeping if frame is bent. Doubt that it is though, a curb at 30 shouldn't bend a frame.

There is no way your frame is bent from going that speed.

If anything the subframe may be bent, but that can be swapped out no problem.

get some new suspension pieces (this may be a good chance to upgrade to multilink suspension), and call it good.

Your best bet will be get a jack, jack the car up and have a look. a visual examination will tell you a lot

i doubt your frame is bent... fix it. pretty sure its worth the fix , theres only a few pieces in the wheel wells and they're not at all super expensive.

heres whats down there in that wheel well:

              - your rim and tire
              - the rim is mounted to the steering knuckle
              - the knuckle has a bearing pressed into it
              - lower control arm + 1 ball joint on either end (one for knuckle and one for subframe mount)
              - upper table (FUCA) (bolts to the upper mount near the shock tower on one side and the other side bolts to the up-right which connects to the steering knuckle)
              - tie rod goes from steering rack to the knuckle and has a universal joint to connect it
              - tension rod bolts from the subframe to the middle of the lower control arm.
              - and lastly of course your shock is in there too.

so.. what do i think you damaged? id say you probably damaged the tension rod, tie rod and MAAAYBEE also the upper control arm. if u need oem replacements im sure u can find everything u need for less than $300. hell i even have a set of GTR upper control arms if they fit ur application?

honestly don't freak out... its never as bad as you originally think it is.

like others have mentioned, if you did break anything, good aftermarket replacements and upgrades can be had too...

Tension rods: (usually $150 for a pair of 2) - cusco, drift works, tein, nismo and a few other small companies make replacements,
upper control arms: a brand new solid bush set from AMS cost about $150 too (i bought a pair 2 years ago, still mint)

or.. driftworks makes like an entire kit, so does nismo but the nismo is oover priced.

post some pics of inside the wheel well, we can tell u what needs to be changed.

I'm pretty sure the tie-rod is broken for sure.

I'm kind of running into a situation for having a jack (don't have one where I live and anyone I can borrow one can't drop it off. Not having a vehicle sucks.) so hard to get it up to snap some pictures.

Considering some of the replies I'm slightly relieved, though not entirely until I get the confirmation that the frame is fine. I really didn't want to have to get rid of my baby.

I did something similar last year, hit the curb at about the same speed with bald tires. I think it cost me about 600 to have fixed, and that includes:

1 used tension rod (thanks supguyex)
1 used lower control arm (thanks supguyex)
1 princess auto ball joint remover (so I could re-use the ball joint)
a tow from one end of town to my place, then another tow from Maple Ridge to Port Moody (auto shop) once I realized I couldn't fix the damge myself
                      1 tie rod end
                      Alignment
                      Cost of labor

My car drives great now. I'd say keep your car and try and fix it yourself or with the help of some other members here. If you have, to take it to a shop and I'm sure they can fix everything for you without too much cost.

Sorry about the shitty quality/angles. Trying to work in a really gay spot + not totally sure what all I should have been taking pictures of.

Took pictures of the 2 things that looked the most ****** up and how far the wheel is pushed back.

                          Ideas/list of parts I need/maybe need?

                              PM sent

What I took pictures of looks like what took most of the damage, some damage to the underside of my bumper but nothing too serious. Whoever said it was right, a good look at it did help a lot. Damage seemed a lot less than I thought it was.
