  • RB Question

Ok here is my little debate

Looking into either doing an RB25DET series 2 or an RB25DET NEO swap this winter.

Now from what i read this is the difference

    turbo is a bit bigger
    solid lifters instead of hydraulic
    gtr connecting rods
    different cams and intake

and obviously the neo is a newer engine

all and any input is great, thanx in advance for your help.

pull type clutch in the neo tranny compared to the push of the series 2.
Neo also has about 280 hp from factory I believe.
Traction is optional, so are zipties

R34 NEO ECU can run a Nistune board.

R34 NEO has a Hitachi CAS instead of Mitsubishi CAS.

neo's are cheap as chips.... Finding one with a 5 speed is where they start getting expensive. I pulled all mine from stagias. Normally I would try to find an awd neo and then cut the diff off. since they came in a auto car they are mint engines!!! Plus, you can use hubs and spindles for 5 lug conversions. Stagias are a gem and cheap and easy to find for any exporter.

ok, well i am looking at a neo for a good price with 5 speed rwd tranny and all the goodies.
right now i have an rb25det series 2 with everything to go into my s-chassis but am depating to sell or not.
I have one offer for the complete setup but he is going to take a while to get the money and I don't have that long... LOL

so far a neo looks like the better route, and i like how it is a newer engine too but looks like upgrades are hard to find

They never have Neo engines in R33s. A Neo is out of a R34 gts or gts25 I forget the model now damnnit.

Neo would Bethesda best bet as far as power goes. There are many options for power upgrades and it would be the same price as a series 2 or close to anyways. There would be many gains from this. I wish I would have gotten a neo and all the parts for one but the series 2 I have I am very satisfied with. Correct me if I'm wrong but I also thought the neo came with different internals than the series 2? Didn't it have rb26 pistons and crank with many other rb26 parts? Also doesn't the neo have solid litters instead of hydraulic allowing you to use a rb26 came if the oppurtunity came about? I would be interested in finding this out for sure.
Miss driving sooooo bad! Need to get a car on the road ASAP!
