  • anyone heard of a GTS under 2500lbs?

I got a cefiro with a cage, wondering if I can get it under the 2500lbs mark. Its been forever since I had a chance to go to the scale. So any of you guys know if its been done. I was thinking a GTS would compare to a cefiro.

Figure at the least I have to do is lexan, cut out rear deck and door skins and rad support, bumper supports and do a lil fab work. Wondering if I can even get it close without buying expensive light weight parts. car is 100% gutted with painless harness so Its only got the essentials thus far. I am running twins on a rb26 with 25 trans tho :S

Reason I ask is that my cage is 1.5"X.095". I am looking into scca events next season and trying to figure out what races I can get involved with with this chassis.

Cefiro: Curb vehicle weight: 1350 kg (auto turbo) 1330 kg (manual turbo) 1260 kg (manual RB20E) 1280 kg (auto RB20E) 1300 kg (RB20DE manual) 1320 kg (RB20DE auto), 1400 kg (auto turbo 4wd)

    GTS-T Curb weight 1,280 kg (2,821.9 lb) (type-m)

I read that RB25DET trans adds 30kg or so to car, above RB20DET trans.

Early (Series 1) 1989-mid 91 R32 GTS-T Type-M is around 1280kg for manual trans. Later model (Series 2) is around 1320kg for manual trans. 4 door add 20kg and then another 20kg or so for autotrans.

Ways to save weight on R32 -

Lighter rims (up to 34kg saving).
    2 piece brake rotors
    Remove HICAS rack, 5kg
    Remove rest of HICAS ??kg
    Lighter GTR bonnet, ??kg
Remove sound deadening under car, inside cabin, bottom of trunk and seal between panels, repaint
Remove aircon pump, core infront of radiator
Remove dash, run gauges on steering column and brace under dash
Remove heat shielding for exhaust under car
Cut holes in rear bumper to let built up air out
Titanium exhaust (save 20kg over factory exhaust)
Carbon doors, Lexan windows (factory doors are 36kg each)
    Lexan front, rear, 1/4 windows
    Lighter springs, shocks
Lighter custom suspension arms (magnesium or aluminium) with solid joints

you forgot front fenders, trunk, rear wiper motor, wiperfluid assembly, ABS (if applicable)

I don't think a street GTS can shave more than 100lbs from stock. I'd have to see scale shots or assume shens.

ya. Mine doesnt have any of that stuff. Its full on race car. If the nut or bolt could be removed, its been done. Im just wondering if there has been any 2500lbs or lighter race cars or if it's not even possible with these cars.

          2500lbs / 2.2 = 1136.3636363636363636363636363636kg. From memory, Gibson GTS-R racecar was around 1160kg with stock doors, glass? windows. 1160kg x 2.2 = 2552lbs

YMS HCR32 is said to be around 1000kg x 2.2 = 2200lbs and still has glass windows, stock doors.

If the Cefiro is anything like an R33, the front end is the "problem area" for obesity. Factory stock, my GTS25T's weight distribution was 59/41 as measured on a set of race scales. I think 2,500lbs is achievable if you do a tubular front-end (replace all sheetmetal forward of firewall). Also, since you have a longer roof, cut it out and replace it with CF or FRP.

Otherwise, I don't think you're cage is going to meet spec. Most series require at least 1.75" x 0.120" tubing for cars over 2500lbs (though you probably already know this, leading to your question).

Well, some good news then. If what you guys say is true I should be able to get it there with some work. i just never heard of one down that low.

The cefiro is more like a S13 up front. Just a bit longer. All the same suspension as S13 with R32 brakes and hubs.

The roof shouldnt be too much. Its pretty light sheet metal. I think once everything is together Ill get it on a scale, then work my way down. Just needed something to know that I can look forward to. Now knowing a cars been down to 2550 I know I can get it to that with the glass removed I would think.

Did you remove the trunk floor where the spare tire sits? I hear its pretty heavy. I know I've heard of R32's on GTROC down around the 1100kg mark. Good luck! Pics? Build Thread?

ya. Im running a stock fuel tank still. I'll do the windows first. If Im still heavy the trunk floor would be the best next step im thinking too. Should be good for 15lbs there id think. 5 or so more with aftermarket cell. Prob on the list anyways after I run it a season. If she is still alive.

been a while since I done much with this car tho I got most the parts and engine here in coquitlam with me. Shell is still in Ab. Need it here sooooon!

cf bucket seats will help out a bit. A stock gtst seat is ~45 lbs, whereas some carbon seats are as low as 7 lbs. I've got a cf memory fab seat (fyi, memory fab is a HORRIBLE company, dont buy from them) and it's only 17lbs.

assuming you've done all the basic,

here are something you can do (if you can fabricate)
                        - ditch the whole front /rear metal and do a tube frame. (you'll save around half the weight)

If you have a full cage tied to your pillars, cut the roof and replace it with FRP panel.
do a FRP/CF dash, ditch the door cards, power window etc.

Mmm Travy's vert now. That is a nice chassis right there.
Traction is optional, so are zipties

i dont think that front bash bar on the vert reduces the weight at all. Theres not much to cut out and that bash bar is bad ass big!
