ok so i bought a hcr32 gtst a year ago almost on the day. i drive it every day, the most expensive thing is tires because i was drifting the crap out of the thing, but honestly, fuel isnt the greatest but no matter what u drive it wont be amazing (if its a decent car) and sucks putting 94 octane over 87 in other cars. but i have never had anything break on mine and i drive it hard and soft. doesnt matter. just doing oil changes, making sure you keep regular maintence is the most expenses you got to do if you take care of it. and if things break you can get most things u need from people off this website. but rwd in the winter isnt the best. i drove mine for a month in snow (snowing everyday) and i wasnt on winters so not smart of me but i mean i got around just fine, just very abusive to your car. just wont will be sad seeing it getting destroyed like that. but you gotta do what u gotta do. i mean if its stock paint then u can always re paint it. if its 15-20 years old its probly due for one. but yeah it turns heads, it sounds incredible, tons of power. i love rolling around with my buddys, 400 hp evo 8 and 375 hp bug eye wrx. and i keep up just fine. just a bit more boost (12 psi) nice big front mount. air intake. exhaust. and some suspension help wont hurt. and youll be smiling everyday you drive your skyline. its a friken skyline dude!! dont cheap out n settle for less. youll be disapointed if u dont get one

So a RX-7 is going to cost me a lot in parts?

But back on topic, I'm getting the general feeling here that I should wait, maybe pick up a old beater for the next year or two then when I'm on my feet and working steady not be cheap and drop 20k on a good GT-R? I'm not worried so much about gas, it's not killing myself in winter (I'll be driving the car in newfoundland winters), not killing the car with the salt, and not having my daily driver break down and be waiting weeks or months for parts that I'm worried about.

Anyone have any idea how much an R34 is going to cost? How much are they going for in Japan now?

Yeah, that would be interesting to know..! The 15 year rule is almost (in about 4 years?) over for the R34, right?

It seems right now, 12-13g can get you a nice minty r32 gtr. As the market seems slow.

A nice clean gts-t can be had for 7-8, however if I were to pay 9 for one I would just spend the extra couple thousand and get a gtr. I regret doing it, I sold my nice clean gts-t because I didn't think I could deal with it in the winter. So I found a jdm wrx. Good car too, more power, and can go through more snow than a 150-1500 sized truck (true story ). However I still think my gts-t was more reliable and just a more fun car to drive, and felt way more awesome cruising in it. And dem tail lights, damn... Making me miss it.

I had the same budget as you when I was looking for a Skyline.

I was looking at both GTS-t's and GTR's.

I ended up getting a really clean GTS-t for $8900 cert. and etested. Then put the rest of the money into the parts fund. And I don't regret that decision one bit.

The GTS-t is an amazing car to drive. I use it as my DD in the summer. It still gets lots of looks, and its cheaper on parts.

Sure, I could have spent a little bit more and gotten a GTR. But that wouldn't have left much money for anything else. And it's always nice to have some spare cash, just in case something does go wrong. Even the most well taken care of cars can break.

I'm in pretty much the same boat as it sounds like alot of you guys were. I am currently looking at Rev10kk's Gtr and am starting to become more serious about it. I will not be driving it in the winter due to lack of money. The whole lack of money to fall back on when buying a gtr seems to be an issue, ive read many many many posts on this forum and I understand that things tend to breakl alot and can be costly to replace (like most 18 year old cars). So I've pretty much made up my mind on a skyline, but am not sure if it'll be a R32 GTR or a gts25t.
                        I drive a Honda...

I would do the newest R33 GTS in the stockest form that you can afford. Check the base Ign. timing and make sure it is at 22 deg. (yes I know that is 2 more than factory) along with changing out the O2s and cleaning the MAF really well and there is no reason why you can't average 20mpg. The dash is much nicer and with a proper set of winter tires and the car at stock ride height winter would be no problem. I have been driving a RWD car with 300hp and 360lbft for over 7 years now and winter is not an issue at all. Spray the underside and the wheel wells of the car with ATF every fall and that's all you need to rustproof the car.

You will get a killer ABS system and if you are not stupid with the throttle winter is easy.

Everything thing mentioned so far is good, i myself always wanted and R32 GTR, but come the day i was looking, fell in love with my R33 GTS25T (nothing close to wanted i was looking for). Wouldn't go back and change anything, fuel is pretty much the same as my 97 Mazda B4000 (except its more for 91 octane) has lost of balls and interior/dash seems better than R32 IMO. BUT the only thing is (and im surprised no one has mentioned) INSURANCE!!! its a year now ive got mine, drove it for 5 months last year (may - sept) and spent 3100$ in insurance. I've decided that this year its not seeing the road and to work on it (well maybe a month cuz i know im gonna wanna drive it :P) but had i not paid so much insurance i would have alot of work done on it with mods i want.

Not trying to discourage but having a skyline as dd all year round will be costly, finding a cheap car for the mean time might not be a bad idea.

Best of luck and hope it all works out

Ps. Rainey94 if you go with a gts25t, i dont think you will be disappointed. its a nice car to drive

I've been daily driving my GTR all winter and it's been very reliable for the most part. It's started every morning and the AWD is beastly. The only thing that went wrong was the a/c compressor seizing. Mind you the engine is completely stock and the car was in great shape to begin with.

It certainly hasn't been cheap though, because I'm constantly washing the car and buying detailing supplies (a combination of rust prevention and OCD lol). Insurance and gas ain't cheap either. I have a regular paying job and the car has definitely put a hole in my wallet with all the maintenance I've been doing to it (new timing belt kit, water pump, ignition harness, etc) but I enjoy the car way too much to let something like that bother me.

I'll definitely be getting a beater later this year though. Racking up miles, and getting stone chips on the car hurts me on the inside.

May decision will definatly be the gts25t or the R32 GTR. Random question, do either have a pass through, or folding rear seats? hahah It may be what seals the deal
