  • Nistune or Power Fc for r33 gts in vancouver.

Im trying to decide between the 2 taking into consideration the availability of tuners in the area for each.

For the money, which is more worth while to go with?

for nistune i would go with the z32 ecu and retain proper vct. but are there any tuners in the area? does venom motorsports still exist and do they tune?

or is it just better to go with the older power fc which im sure there more than a few tuners for in the vancouver lower mainland area.

please let me know, im sorry if this has been covered but i'll coming home from europe soon and want to get on which to get and decide where to buy it and whatnot.

    thanks in advance.
I love the thing and its worth it every time I start it. As soon as it stops make me smile ill get rid of it (not gonna happen)

Would need a Field or similar US made (I think are better because wires don't fall out of plug as easy) intercept loom to do the 8 or so pinout changes and need a Z32 ECU with Nistune, custom program to disable features R33 doesn't have.

If you can find one, a 92-94 J30 Maxima (VE30DE) SE ECU that has VVT (sold in US) that supposedly bolts in with 0 pinout changes. That info is said to come from Jim Wolf in USA -

Jim Wolf Technology, Inc. has specialized in performance tuning products for Nissan / Infiniti / Datsun vehicles for over 30 years. Our Performance Optimized Products are used worldwide at every level of motor sports activity, from Nissan Factory Race Teams to Street legal performance. There are few companies in the world that can produce and stand behind products like JWT.

If have the $$$, Link G4 or Vipec ECU.

Someone on Nico forums with R33 RB25DET -

Also mentions Z32 ECU pinout changes.

Here's the pinout for the Maxima VE30DE ECU -

I only trust Bob @ Blitzkrieg Autowerks in Vancouver to tune my cars. He has been the only one touching the Miata. He has some experience with PFC, however don't base choosing your tuner on someone who says they have all this experience with a certain ECU.. A real talented tuner can pick up any program and tune it without much difficulty. Bob is mainly a MoTeC guy, but he has tuned a Megasquirt for me and my current Haltech. He tuned a guy's built MR2 with a PFC not too long ago (the whole thing was built by them).

RG is absolute garbage....they have tuned about 5 of my buddies cars and every tune is complete garbage...I would strongly recommend not going to them!

i think im gonna go with the nistune route. and with the maxima ecu. shouldnt be too hard to get a hold of.
find the ecu, will need a type 3 nistune board and then someone to install and tune.
really like the idea of plug and play, not that re pinning is all that hard but the less hassel the better is something i like.

Wait, how come you can't use the stock R33 ecu?

they did not continue to make nistune for R33 ecu . You can however get it socketed and a tune rom chip and plug in to socket . there is guy here that can do rom chip . but i dont see him anymore.
I did manage to get a tuned rom chip from a company in england . check this site. www.risingsunperformance.co.uk
they can give you a stage1 tune .

With Z32 ECU the pinout changes are on a ECU intercept loom / harness (Field or similar) that fits between ECU plug, ECU.

For example of what a Field ECU intercept loom / harness looks like (makes Z32 ECU plug and play) -

I think Apexi, etc sell similar ECU harnesses.

Nistune is not available for R33 ECU, as it's more complex than R33 or R32 stock ECU.

With R33 ECU you can use a daughter board with 2 x 28pin EPROM chips but cost's alot. Or use a 184pin chip, 184pin socket which is how they are tuned in Japan (cheaper option).

                        This 240sx with RB25DET runs a Nistune modified Z32 ECU -

this 89 240sx is equiped with a rb25 series 1. Just installed a custom fabbed stec manifold, turbo uprgrade, nistune with the repined z32 ecu, lighting maf an...

Had some problems with engine (tune was done on road, not dyno and may have damaged engine) hence why it's slower than it should be.

I think once i get home from Europe i'll look into the cost of either ecu, + loom for z32 which may be the determining factor between which to get since those looms can be like 150 or so on its own.
the nistune board is actually cheaper for the maxima ecu then it is for the z32. although not by very much.
either way they both will get me to the same place in the end.

Ok so will be going the maxima ecu route, i have all the compatible part numbers for the ecu's and will need to pick up a type 3 nistune board instead of a type 2.
