  • Winter Driving Nice Cars

Now that the warmer weather is here and Skylines are coming out (making us all sane again) I thought it was a good time to discuss some of the nice cars I saw driving this winter. Here in no particular order is a list:

Lamborghini Gallardo (on not too bad of a day)
3 Bentley Continental GTs (one with 20 or 22" rims)
    Ferrari 360 Modena
More than 6 (I lost count) Porsche 911s (Carrera, 4S, Cabriolet, Turbo)
    Several Porsche Boxters and Caymans
C4 Corvette that looked and sounded modded (in 10cm of snow)
    Only 1 Skyline
    300ZX TT
A bunch of new Camaros, Mustangs (including a Shelby), & Chargers
There are probably a few more that I cant remember right now.

So the question is does this list make any of you think differently about putting your Skyline away for the winter? Discuss

(Before I get flamed, yes I did keep my Skyline parked in a secured and heated garage for the winter)

I drove my car all winter, and it's still in great shape. But I probably won't do it again.

I drove my during the winter as well. Really no issues at all, and I don't see what the big deal is. Porsche recommends that owners drive their cars in the winter; hell, they even hold seminars and special events around winter driving in a new Porsche!

The fact of the matter is, we simply choose not to, not because they're "Nice or rare" vehicles, but because in the event of an accident, they're relatively expensive to repair for what they're worth. If you can afford any of those above cars, well quite simply put, I wouldn't hesitate to drive them in the winter either. The only difference is that when those go back on lease, they get something else; our cars continue to depreciate, all we can do is attempt to retain their value by daily driving something else.

Also.. When you put as much work and time into these cars as some of us do, then more often than not the possibility of winter driving is ruled out. When my car was stock, i really didn't care whether or not i drove it in the winter.. However when that time came, i opted not to based on all the work and maintenance i had done to it to keep it in pristine condition.

My GTR was cradled in it's storage all winter and the engine bay turned to magnesium oxide sh*t with last october's humidity.

That's not going to be fun to scrub off. The original disks had also rotten in dry storage, before I had bought her. I don't even want to think the shape she'd get into with snow added to the mix.

You're damned if you do, you're damned if you don't.

It was definately larger than stock, black rims with a chrome lip, I didnt even think you would be able to get a winter/all season tire to fit a 22" rim.

I always end up driving a nice car for the winter. I have had 2 different GTIRs, 2 differend GTSTs and a GTR with no problem at all. Slap some winter tires on and drive the piss out of it. Gtst on winter tires is a blast to drive.
