  • sequential turbo's ?

    hey guys
    so ive been reading about alot of high powered diesel trucks run sequential turbo (if you guys dont know one low pressure and one high pressure).
    has anyone tryed this on a rb series motor??
    for example a r34n1 for the high pressure and a t51r for low pressure ? has anyone tryed somthing like this?
    i think it would be good for people looking for low end response and high end power
    so is this a dumb idea or do you guys think it can work??

    Sounds like a bad idea to me. Maybe It'd work well with an unlimited budget.... But very few people enjoy that luxury.

      this is what Supras run stock, and the Audi A4's, and i think even some Mazda Rx's... not 100% sure... but the reason WE don't do that route it because twin scroll single turbo is way more effective and easy/cheap to do then a complex aftermarket sequential. cool idea, though.

        i just posted to see what people had to say about it haha
        and dreadedfist your right it would cost alot and most likly alot of one off parts

          Depending on how custom you want to get, a sequential turbo system could be made to be baller. Imagine a GT30 and GT45 combo or something!

            First turbo spools to 3000ish rpm and then the other turbo kicks in for the rest in an rx7.

              Waste of time IMO, stick to the tried and true. You're talking about a 20 year old car here. Try a V8 if you wanna go nuts. Best of both worlds and no girly displacement.

                        I looked into this a while back and it seemed that sequential turbos are very difficult to tune correctly.

                        What I have been reading about lately that seems to be effective is twin-charging - supercharger for low end and turbo for high end. I would look at that before sequential turbos I think..

                            its one of the reason supra owners scrap the twin sequential setup in favor of big single

                            i got a ride in a buddy of mine's 340hp TT supra the other day, the feeling of transition between both turbo around 4000-4500rpm is freaking weird (read; it sucks)

                              There have been many of these setups done on RBs,the most famous being the last iteration of the famous Greddy R32.
                              the main real reason this is not done on a larger scale is cost,the supra boys have a few kits out now by the main big tuners making bigtime power but look at the prices,most just simply go single.
                              Take a look at the tractor pull guys,many of you will say old crap but the power output and torque speak volumes on what may be called old crap engines.
