  • Shipping a car across canada

hey guys, im calling on fellow gtrc'rs to help me with a few concerns and questions about shipping a vehicle across canada.
Im looking at purchasing a gtr from another member here and he is located across the country, im deciding if it will work better for me to fly there and drive back or fly there, ship the car and fly back. For the record, it appears as of right now its going to be better for my schedule to ship the car back rather than drive it (although that would be an experience of a lifetime)

for sake of details it will be from montreal to bc (anywhere in bc)

So im wondering if anyone here could recommend a good shipping service and if i could get some testimonials from people that have shipped their cars across canada.
damages, stolen items, on time delivery etc....

Also if anyone can give me a price range they've paid so i know what to expect when i start contacting said shipping services. so far with a search ive found tfx international, which i find tempting, but other than that i haven't looked further past them

As a secondary question, can anyone provide me any details of what is involved with the difference in safety and reg between quebec and bc and what i need to arrange for when the car is delivered in order to drive it home or to a shop. such as obtaining a permit. do i need to insure it in quebec first and then swap when it gets to bc? bah soo much to do, with so little time. Looking at arranging all of this for the last week of july.

    PLEASE HELP ME FRIENDS! thanks.

never delt with shipping a car in canada but its been talked about alot on here so u could search around. but as far as registration is concered i bought my gtr out of province and to get it registered in bc you have to have it federally and provincially inspected. this means dot shat. after you pass the inspection you can get insurance and you dont need aircare for one year! after that year you need air care to re register

Tfx is prolly the best company you'll find. Shipping will cost you 1600-1800 in an enclosed trailer and it will be there in a week. For me personally if the car is a good deal or that good of a car then ya I would do it other than that I would save myself the time and money and buy locally

if you do drive it across canada i would tape up all the leading edges like front of mirrors, bumpers etc. youll probably hit alot of big ass bugs, little rocks or who knows what. might same you from head aches

I thought of doing this as well but then you run into a problem! Car is not safeties in your name, no etest in your name and definitely no insurance for the car either. If you get pulled which now a days in a skyline is very possible then I would say you S.O.L. Not worth the hassle in my opinion especially since you have a tight schedule and in the long run it could cost you more in fines and take more time.

You're from BC right? Why would you buy in Eastern Canada when you're in JDM heaven lol.

I'm the one who will have to drive from BC-->SK-->NB lol not you

i've used kee west and hansens both with good results.

you would get temp insurance in quebec for the length of the drive back.
              oh hai!

Well ive gotta say you guys are awesome! Good feedback so far. For those that are wondering im looking at a specific gtr in eastern canada, that from i can tell has been better taken care of than most children in canada lol.
So with that, keep it commin boys! So far im guessing im looking at close to 2 g's. Where can i find whats needed to pass a safety? My last 2 skylines were already safetied when i bought them
