  • Which is a Better Engine. 2JZ or Rb26 stock and potential

From technical unbiased opinion. Which is a better Engine RB26 or Surpra's 2jz?

What are the good and the bad in each of these engines?

Also potentially which engine will have the best potential on same amount of budget.

Stock: it's revs vs displacement, like the old saying goes there is no replacement for displacement and it is true. The extra torque however can be countered by not needing to shift for another 1000 rpms, imo I think revs is the way to go, if I wanted torque I'd get muscle not jdm.
Potential: money and creativity is the only limiting factor. 2jz will go further on stock internals but who really gives a f*ck about how far stock can go, if your serious about power/reliability you'd swap them out for forged anyways....
Same budget: depends on the budget.... if you've got the budget to fully rebuild each engines, read ^. If don't have enough money to rebuild then obviously 2jz, they can handle 700rwhp on stock block

Search on google, this topic has been discussed so many times lol. Also it depends on what your using that engine for, different motorsports calls for different applications. For track you obviously don't want a huge laggy turbo since you want a constant, predictable powerband whereas if your dragging the car, it's all about top end...

I feel that I've just regurgitated what is obvious to everyone rofl

my friend put it best and i have to agree. he said that the 2j is the superior motor but the gtr is the superior car. the 2jz is stronger stock and has more readily available parts since it was actually avaible in the north american market. the rb26 has less displacement and of course the oil crank problem but is still a close second. this is all imho of course

        2jz; better motor
        GTR; better car.

by buddy makes the same ~400whp with his (JDM!) supra, which isn't has good has the usdm one, with simple BPUs, stock turbos, while i've had to do quite alot more

I would suggest 1jz, they can handle a lot of power on stock internals, and they are way cheaper than 2jz!

According to Jesse the 2JZ will dessimate all after you put about 15 grand in it or more.

Agreed.. And I like the sequential setup vs the parallel.

I wouold say motor to motor the 2JZ is far superior. Guys make 800+whp on STOCK internals, no pistons, rods, bearings, any of that stuff. It has displacement, good breathing head, and a lot stronger forged internals stock than the RB26.

                        Anyone remember this?

                        7s stock RB26, roughly 1200 hp.

The only problem I see with this comparison is this, the GTR is all wheel drive and the Supra
is rear wheel drive, what those this have to do you may think. well actually a LOT. Having all
wheel drive puts a lot more stress on every thing, and that is even before you start putting
                          sticky tires.

But personally, I still think the 2jz is a better starting point than the RB26dett or even RB30/26dett.
The 2JZ has 4 bolt main and doesn't need a 1k oil pump or a dry sump system.

They are both great engine engine which ever way you look at them.

But when you start upping the power the most important point is going to be tuning, and the type of
                          fuel used.
