  • Should I go +22 if I can't get +12 ?

    Hey guys,

I never bought a set of rims and I'm pretty newbs. so please excuse my ignorance. I always heard that +12 look good on skylines, but why? is it because of the concavity of the rims?

The rim I want to buy have all their +12 on back-order till december. They can offer +0 but will cost an extra which suck or +22. So, I'm thinking going 22 offset.

They insure me that the offset doesn't affect how concave the wheels are but rather the wide of the wheel. In this case, is there anything wrong by going with +22 ?

u need to no the brand as well because not all companies change the concave on their rims dependent on the width, Ex: Rota does not, XXR does not, VarrStoen does not.

here is offset explained well by varrstoen

To make things visually easy, we will use a 48mm or 2″ tall lug nut (VarrsToen® Forged Lug Nuts arriving soon) as a measuring tool…

Here we have the +22 offset…

…+22 offset (Rear Pad) NOTICE the width of the Hub

        Now the +12 offset…

        +12 offset (Rear Pad)

        Lastly, the +0 offset…

        +0 offset (Rear Pad)

I have 18x9.5 +12 with 275/35zr18's and Im 2 inches lowered from stock. I can barely fit my pinky finger between my fenders and tires... surprisingly I dont rub... very often.

I do rub occasionally on weird angles or hard braking down a steep hill, but still very minimal. I didnt think I was gunna be able to fit my wheels without adjusting my coilovers higher, but I managed to fit them with just a small fender roll.

im running 9" with a negitive 4 (-4) offset and it only pokes slightly
i would go 0 in the rear with +12 in the front
              that would look sweet

the rims im looking into now will be 18x10.5 +0

also remember we are talking mm's here
the difference is so minimal but it all depends on the look you want

what size rims do you have now?
i believe you have volks right? (for sale now)

My car has +22 17x9, there is a decent amount of concave.
On an R32 +22 is safe in terms of hitting the fenders, +12 is nearly flush with the fender, so you won't be able to lower your car a lot unless you roll the fenders. 0 fitment is a bad idea.

This is my car on +22, the rears can go lower, the won;t touch the fenders, the fronts will rub if I go lower there though. Should give you an idea of how low you can go with +22.

another thing to add ... your tire size will also help determine what offset/rim size you can run withour rubbing
you have to also determine what look you want

you can be low with +0 offset and be fine

camber/stretch/fender roll will be needed though
its not impossible or a bad idea if you do it right

almost 2 inches lowered, 275/35zr18 tire , 18x9.5 +12 with moderate fender roll. In this pic my front tire is only 225/40zr18 but have since upgraded to 275/35zr18 in the front to match the rear.

This will show you what offset is:

I would personally go with +12 since it has better resale value, fit flusher.

So they only have +0 in my sizing 17x9.5 and +12 or +22 will only be by december ( car will be stored by that time and have no acces to it)...

why not buy stockers for winter storage, order the wheels, and put them on when spring rolls around ?
