    US Import law petition

    Hey guys,

GTRC OG and good friend Sean Morris (Tyndago) has started a petition on the White House website to try and change the US 25 year importation to 15 yr like what we enjoy in Canada (for a change, an American would like US laws to harmonize with the Canadian equivalent).

If you are a US resident or have family/friends in the States, please spread the word to sign the e-petition and lets hope one day Skyline enthusiasts on both sides of the border can equally enjoy these awesome cars.

Nice write up and great supporting evidence. The reference to Mercedes Benz was great. Hopefully this petition sees some more activity and acquires more supporting votes.

      Signed.

I hope to heck for them that the law is changed to 15yrs. Unfortunately I don't think they will change as it doesn't just pertain to sports cars. The 25yr old law was put into place in 1988 when Mercedes Benz spent 1 million dollars lobbying to prevent people from importing luxury cars from Europe. Although I think there are a couple more manufacturers that would jump on board with Mercedes nowadays, We'll keep our fingers crossed!

i dont want it to be changed. finally one reason to live in canada. plus if it is changed skylines will start to flood america and in turn make them worthless. Plus the amount of good quality skylines available in japan will drop with americans buying them all.

if the only reason you have to live in canada is to be able to own a skyline you probably shouldnt...you really havent thought this through at all. if skylines are legal in the us where do you think the first place they will look to buy them..... CANADA. making them "worthless" is a far cry from the truth. love your attitude

                      lol @ elitist comment

I'm super down w/ US enjoying the same privileges as we do. "Oh nooo, THEY TOOK RRRR KARRRRRSSSsss!"

shitty skylines are worthless if they are shitty, not because of "market flood" you're expecting.

I love the idea and all, but don't think it's gonna work.

Americans don't tend to listen and usually have their ways of doing things. Just saying.

Well, not only are they not going to change the 25 year rule, but if they did then all the beloved JDM's awaiting auction in Japan will double, triple, or quadruple in price. Not good for speculative buyers, but good for current owners looking to sell.

Not only will the cars go up in price, but also the parts. Not a good idea, boys.
Fukk the states, they pay less than we do for brand new cars made WITHIN CANADA. So fukk em, let em wait another few years for the leftover R32's.

Are you guys out of your minds? You want to let 200 million people in on this market?
They already pay less than we do for the vehicles manufactured within Canada.
Personally, I say fukk the states. Let them wait another few years for the leftover R32's.
